To close a prediction-market account, first settle or close open positions, cancel any required open orders, and withdraw available funds using the platform’s supported method. Then follow its account settings process. Polymarket calls this deletion; Kalshi calls it deactivation. Neither process guarantees that every record disappears.

Before you close the account

Account closure, position settlement, and withdrawal are separate actions. Review open positions and resting orders first: a platform may require them to be cleared before you can close the account. Then check the platform’s withdrawal options for your account, including destination details, eligibility, verification, fees, and timing. Availability can vary by method and account.

  • Close or settle open positions, which can otherwise remain exposed to market outcomes.
  • Cancel resting orders if the platform requires it.
  • Withdraw available funds before deleting or deactivating the account.
  • Save any records you may need before access is removed.

Close and withdraw from Polymarket

Withdraw funds

Polymarket’s withdrawal instructions, dated January 12, 2026, say to open Portfolio, choose Withdraw, enter the recipient address, select the token, amount, and network, then confirm. Processed funds are sent to the specified address. Before confirming, verify the destination address, asset, and network; do not assume a particular token or network is supported for every account. See Polymarket’s withdrawal instructions.

Delete the account

Polymarket’s account-deletion instructions, dated June 25, 2026, require you to close all open positions and withdraw all funds from your Polymarket wallet first. Once those conditions are met, go to Settings and use the account-deletion option. Polymarket says the profile and associated personal data are deleted in line with its Privacy Policy, although some data may be retained where law or regulation requires. Deleting the account does not erase public blockchain history: Polymarket says past on-chain transactions remain visible. See Polymarket’s account-deletion instructions.

Deactivate and withdraw from Kalshi

Withdraw funds using an available method

Kalshi lists separate withdrawal instructions for bank, debit card, crypto, PayPal, and Venmo. The route and requirements depend on the method available to your account; consult the relevant instructions in Kalshi’s withdrawals help collection.

For crypto withdrawals, Kalshi’s help article, dated August 24, 2026, directs users to open Transfers, choose Withdraw from Kalshi, select Crypto, and follow the on-screen steps to provide a wallet address and complete the transaction. The article says a prior crypto deposit is required and document verification may be required. It states there is no crypto withdrawal fee and that funds typically arrive within 30 minutes; that is a typical estimate, not a guarantee that every account is eligible or every transfer completes within that time. The article also distinguishes US processing through Zero Hash from a separate provider for international users. See Kalshi’s crypto withdrawal instructions.

Kalshi Rulebook v1.24 says Kalshi transmits a member’s withdrawal request to its Clearing House within one business day. That is a transmission step, not a promise that funds will arrive in your bank account within one business day. The rulebook also allows funds to be retained for unsatisfied obligations and withdrawals to be suspended or denied in specified circumstances, such as legal or regulatory barriers or funds relevant to an investigation. See Kalshi Rulebook v1.24.

Deactivate the account

Kalshi’s deactivation instructions, dated August 13, 2026, require you to sell or close all open positions, cancel all resting orders, and withdraw funds until the balance is $0. Then open Account & security in settings, scroll to Deactivate your account, and confirm. Kalshi says its representatives cannot deactivate an account manually for you. See Kalshi’s deactivation instructions.

Deactivation is not full deletion. Kalshi says it stops trading and access to the account, but some account records must be retained for identity verification, compliance, and security because it is a federally regulated financial exchange.

What remains after closure?

The meaning of closure differs between these platforms. Polymarket describes deleting the account and associated personal data subject to legal or regulatory retention, but public on-chain transaction history remains visible. Kalshi describes deactivation, which stops access and trading but does not remove records it must retain. Do not treat either process as a promise that every trace of account activity will be erased.

If you want a break from trading instead

If your goal is to limit trading rather than withdraw and close the account, Kalshi documents voluntary self-exclusion for a selected term and points to SelfExclude.io for broader exclusions across participating platforms. Close open positions beforehand: Kalshi cautions that you cannot sell them during a self-exclusion period. Self-exclusion does not itself withdraw funds or close the account. See Kalshi’s self-exclusion guidance.
