To clear a voicemail notification on a Samsung phone, open voicemail and listen to all new messages. If you want to keep voicemail but stop its alerts, change the notification settings in the Phone app. To turn voicemail service off—or resolve an indicator that will not clear—contact your mobile network provider.
Clear the notification after listening to messages
- Open voicemail and listen to all new messages. Samsung says the notification should normally disappear once all new messages have been heard.
- If it remains, Samsung UK documents this troubleshooting route: open Settings > Apps, open the sorting or options menu, select Show system apps, then choose Call settings > Storage > Clear cache and Clear data. Menu names can vary by phone and software version.
- Know the effect before clearing data: Samsung says this resets the Phone app and removes recent calls, but does not remove contacts. If the notification persists, Samsung says to repeat the step for the Phone app.
- If the indicator is still there, contact your network provider to check the voicemail account settings.
These steps are from Samsung UK Support’s voicemail-notification guidance, updated 24 June 2024.
Change voicemail alerts without turning off voicemail
Samsung UK documents this route for changing how voicemail alerts appear: open Phone > More options (the three dots) > Settings > Voicemail > Notifications. Available controls in Samsung’s guidance include:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Alert or Silent: choose whether voicemail notifications make an alert. With Alert selected, you can choose a sound.
- Pop-up display and vibration: switch these notification behaviors on or off.
- Lock screen: choose how voicemail notifications appear on the lock screen.
The documented route is for Samsung UK guidance; not every Galaxy model, One UI version, or carrier will show the same labels or options. If Voicemail or Notifications is missing, check the Phone app’s settings and the phone’s app-notification settings. If the option is still unavailable, ask your carrier what controls are supported for your account.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.
- Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro). Battery: 5000 mAh, non-removable | A power adapter is NOT included.
Turn off the voicemail service itself
Changing a notification only changes the alert; it does not cancel voicemail. Samsung states that “Voicemail services are controlled by your network provider” and recommends contacting the provider to switch the service off. Ask the carrier to confirm that voicemail has been disabled for your line.
Samsung also documents a separate call-forwarding route: Phone > Settings > Supplementary services > Call forwarding. This controls when calls are forwarded and to what destination; changing forwarding is not the same as turning off the carrier’s voicemail service. Confirm the intended change with your provider. See Samsung’s guidance on voicemail and call forwarding.

Why a voicemail indicator can behave differently
Visual voicemail can depend on carrier integration with Android’s Dialer and a carrier-provided visual voicemail app. The Android Open Source Project’s visual voicemail documentation describes this integration, but it does not establish one universal menu or fix for every Samsung phone. The available app and settings can therefore depend on the carrier and Galaxy configuration.

If you have heard all new messages and the indicator remains, the carrier is the right next contact: it can check the voicemail account state and whether its service or visual voicemail integration is affecting the alert.
