To clear cookies, open your browser’s privacy or browsing-data controls, select cookies or site data, choose a time range if offered, and confirm deletion. You may be signed out of websites or lose saved site preferences. If only one site is causing trouble, remove that site’s data first when your browser provides that option.
What clearing cookies removes—and what it does not
Cookies are data websites store in your browser to help remember things such as sign-in state and site preferences. Removing them can require you to sign in again and may reset preferences. It does not necessarily remove cached images and files: browsers often list cookies and cache as separate data categories.
Clearing the cache is optional. It can help with some loading or formatting problems, but it is not a guaranteed fix. After cached files are removed, some pages may load more slowly at first while images and other content download again. Google explains these effects in its cache and cookies guidance.
Clear cookies in Chrome
On a computer
- Open Chrome’s menu and select Delete browsing data.
- Choose a time range, such as Last hour or All time.
- Select Cookies and other site data. Leave other categories, such as cached images and files, unchecked if you do not want to remove them.
- Select Delete data to confirm.
To remove data for just one website, use Chrome’s site-data settings to find that site and delete its stored data. Google’s Chrome cookie instructions for computers cover both general cookie controls and site-specific deletion.

On Android
- Open Chrome’s menu and tap Delete browsing data.
- Choose a duration.
- Open More options to select the data categories, then choose cookies or site data.
- Delete the selected data.
Google says deleting cookies while signed in to Chrome does not sign you out of your Google Account. It can still remove site settings, and sites may need to load content again. See Google’s Android instructions for the current controls.
On iPhone or iPad
In Chrome, tap More and open Settings or Delete browsing data. In the browsing-data controls, choose the cookie or site-data category, set a time range if offered, and confirm deletion. Google manages saved passwords separately from this data. Because the route can vary by app version, follow the current Chrome instructions for iPhone and iPad if the labels differ.

Choose the right scope before deleting
- One troublesome website: Prefer a site-specific removal if your browser offers one. This avoids deleting data for unrelated sites.
- Several sites or a broader reset: Use the browser’s general cookie or website-data controls and review the time range before confirming.
- Keep history: Choose a control that removes website data separately; Safari on iPhone documents this distinction.
- Use browser sync: In Edge, check whether deletion will affect synced devices as well as the current one.
What to do after clearing cookies
- Return to the affected site and sign in again if asked.
- Set any site preferences that were reset.
- If you also cleared the cache, allow extra time for pages to download images and other content again.
- If the problem continues, cookie deletion may not have addressed its cause; it does not guarantee a fix for every loading or formatting issue.
