For routine cleaning, power off and unplug your phone, remove its case and accessories, then gently wipe the exterior with a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth. Don’t spray liquid onto the phone or let moisture enter openings. Disinfectant guidance differs by manufacturer, so use only the method approved for your exact phone.
What to use for everyday phone cleaning
Start with a clean, dry, soft lint-free microfiber cloth. Samsung also names a camera-lens cleaning cloth; Apple recommends a soft, slightly damp lint-free cloth for routine cleaning; Google recommends a soft, lint-free cloth. These are routine-cleaning instructions, not a claim that a cloth disinfects the phone.
Before wiping, shut the phone down and disconnect cables or accessories. Remove the case and other covers so you can clean the exterior without trapping dirt or wetting the device. Use gentle strokes rather than rough scrubbing.

How to handle stubborn grime and disinfecting
Do not treat cleaning and disinfection as the same job. For stubborn grime, Samsung’s US Galaxy guidance allows a small amount of distilled water, applied carefully to a cloth. For disinfection, the permitted wipe or solution depends on the phone maker and, in some cases, the surface material.

Samsung Galaxy phones: US support guidance
Samsung permits, for glass, ceramic, and metal surfaces, a hypochlorous-acid solution at 50–80 ppm or an alcohol solution with more than 70% ethanol or isopropyl alcohol. Put the solution on a microfiber cloth—not directly on the phone—and use only enough to avoid excess moisture. These are Samsung’s current US instructions; check the guidance for your model and location.
Apple iPhone
Apple permits 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes, 75% ethyl alcohol wipes, or specified disinfecting wipes on iPhone exterior surfaces. Its routine cleaning method is a soft, slightly damp lint-free cloth. Keep moisture out of openings and do not submerge the phone. Use cleaning products only in line with Apple’s disinfection instructions.

Google Pixel
Google permits ordinary household disinfecting wipes or 70% isopropyl alcohol-based wipes. For routine cleaning, it recommends a soft lint-free cloth and advises against harsh cleaners and rough scrubbing. Pixel Fold has a model-specific caution concerning the edges of its protective film, so check Google’s instructions before cleaning those areas.

Samsung says general cleaners, compressed-air sprays, and bleach-based products can peel or damage the oleophobic coating on its phone displays, which helps shield the screen from fingerprint smudging. That explanation is specific to Samsung’s guidance; it should not be assumed to describe every phone or coating. The manufacturers’ instructions also differ on which disinfectants are permitted, so an alcohol wipe is not automatically right or wrong for every device.

- Never spray cleaner directly onto a phone. If the manufacturer permits a liquid solution, apply it to a cloth as directed.
- Keep liquids away from ports, speakers, and other openings, and avoid excess moisture.
- Do not use bleach spray, compressed air, abrasive materials, or forceful scrubbing unless the exact device instructions expressly permit a method.
- Do not submerge an iPhone to clean it; Apple warns against doing so.
Check the instructions for your exact phone
These recommendations are not a universal recipe. A phone’s finish, model, protective film, or unusual surface can change what is safe. Consult the manufacturer’s cleaning page for your device before using a disinfectant, especially for foldable displays or older models.
