To clean a Samsung black stainless steel refrigerator, start with a clean, soft microfiber cloth and check your exact model’s manual before using a specialty cleaner. For stainless-steel exteriors, Samsung recommends applying a dedicated stainless-steel cleaner or polish to a cloth, wiping along the grain, then drying the surface. Don’t spray liquid directly on the refrigerator or assume glass cleaner is suitable: it can leave streaks on stainless steel.
How do I clean a Samsung black stainless steel refrigerator?
Use the least aggressive method that fits the job. A clean, dry or lightly damp microfiber cloth is a sensible first choice for everyday dust and fingerprints. For marks that remain, follow the care instructions for your model; Samsung’s general stainless-steel guidance recommends a dedicated stainless-steel cleaner or polish applied to a cloth.
- Check your refrigerator’s manual. Confirm which panels are black stainless steel and whether the manual permits a particular cleaner. A refrigerator may also have a display, plastic trim, or other surfaces that need different care.
- Wipe routine fingerprints gently. Use a clean, soft microfiber cloth. If a dry cloth does not lift the marks, dampen it slightly rather than wetting the door.
- Use stainless-steel cleaner only as directed. Samsung Canada recommends a dedicated stainless-steel cleaner for stainless exteriors and wiping along the grain. Samsung Gulf recommends stainless-steel cleaner or polish, applied to a rag rather than sprayed on the appliance. These are general stainless-care recommendations, not a compatibility guarantee for every black stainless finish or model. - Dry the surface. Use a separate clean, soft cloth after cleaning to reduce water marks and streaks.
What cleaner is safe for black stainless steel?
There is no single cleaner established as safe for every Samsung black stainless refrigerator. Finish and care instructions can vary by model and market, so use the exact model’s manual as the deciding guide—especially before trying a specialty product. Samsung’s regional guidance for stainless-steel exteriors supports a dedicated stainless-steel cleaner or polish, but that does not certify every formulation for every black stainless coating.
Samsung Canada also advises using a mild, non-abrasive detergent that is safe for refrigerators when needed for spills, followed by thorough drying. That instruction should not be read as approval for any household detergent on every exterior finish. Glass cleaner may leave streaks on stainless steel, according to Samsung Gulf.

How do I remove fingerprints and streaks without damaging the finish?
Begin with a clean cloth and light pressure. If the marks persist, use only a product permitted by your model’s manual, apply it to the cloth rather than the refrigerator, and follow the grain when wiping. Finish by drying with a clean cloth. Avoid scrubbing harder to chase a mark: Samsung Hong Kong warns against abrasive pads or brushes and harsh chemicals in its guidance for products in that market.
Samsung lists fingerprint-resistant black stainless steel on the US specification for refrigerator model RF20A5101SG, describing it as “A finish that withstands everyday smudges, so you spend less time cleaning.” That is product copy for that model, not a quantified cleaning-performance result or a claim that the finish never needs care. Samsung’s 2021 RF20A5101SG specification also notes that specifications and color availability can change.

Stop before scraping the surface. Samsung Singapore’s article, last updated July 14, 2022, discusses soapy water or oil for sticker residue and mentions WD-40 or rubbing alcohol for stainless steel. Those suggestions are regional, residue-specific instructions—not a general recommendation for routine cleaning or a guarantee for every black stainless finish. Check your model’s manual first; if it permits a specialty approach, test it on a hidden area before using it on a visible panel. Samsung Singapore’s sticker-residue guidance describes its scope.
