If your Samsung Gear S3 gets wet, dry it thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth. If the liquid was salt water, ionized water, or an alcoholic beverage, rinse the watch with clean water first, then dry it thoroughly. Samsung does not describe the Gear S3 as waterproof: its IP68 rating applies to specified conditions, and resistance can be affected by forceful water or impact.
What to do, depending on what got on the watch
Clean water
Dry the Gear S3 thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth, following Samsung Singapore’s Gear S3 care instructions. Samsung does not specify a required drying time.
Salt water, ionized water, or an alcoholic beverage
- Rinse the watch with clean water.
- Dry it thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth.
These are the specific non-clean liquids for which Samsung gives this rinse-and-dry instruction. The guidance does not establish a separate cleaning procedure for other substances.
After drying: audio and handling
If the watch was immersed or its speaker or microphone is wet, call sound may be unclear until those parts are dry. Wipe or dry the watch thoroughly before using it for calls. Samsung also advises drying wet hands before handling the device.

What the Gear S3’s water-resistance rating means
Samsung Singapore describes the Gear S3 as IP68 and states a limit of up to 1.5 m depth for up to 30 minutes. Those are specified exposure conditions, not a guarantee against water entry—particularly for a used or damaged watch. Samsung advises against immersion beyond those limits and exposure to forceful moving water. Its Canadian smartwatch guidance and US guidance also caution that high-pressure water and drops or hard impacts can reduce resistance.
A drop or impact may impair the watch’s water- and dust-resistance. Do not assume a watch remains within its original resistance limits after damage.

What Samsung’s instructions do not specify
The cited Gear S3 care guidance calls for a clean, soft cloth, and for rinsing after the listed liquids. It does not give a timed drying period or an internal water-damage repair procedure. If the watch continues to malfunction or you suspect water has entered it, consult Samsung support for guidance applicable to your region and the watch’s condition rather than opening the watch based on these care instructions.
