Turn the monitor off and let it cool. Start with a clean, soft microfiber cloth used dry; if a mark remains, lightly dampen a cloth corner with distilled or purified water, wipe gently, then dry the screen with a clean section. Never spray liquid directly onto the display. Check the manual for your exact monitor model before using any chemical cleaner.
QD-OLED monitor cleaning: the safe method
- Turn off the monitor and let it cool. Disconnect its cables if your monitor’s instructions advise it. Samsung recommends turning off the monitor and computer, disconnecting cables, and waiting for the monitor to cool before cleaning. Samsung’s monitor-cleaning instructions explain its procedure.
- Remove dust with a clean, soft microfiber cloth. Use it dry and wipe lightly. Make sure the cloth is free of grit, which could scratch the display. ASUS and ROG also recommend microfiber for cleaning monitor panels. ASUS’s panel-cleaning FAQ and ROG’s OLED-monitor guide offer more detail.
- For a stubborn fingerprint or oily mark, use water sparingly. Lightly dampen one corner of the cloth with distilled or purified water. Do not spray or pour water onto the screen. Samsung advises using distilled or still water on a microfiber cloth; ASUS and ROG also describe applying water to the cloth rather than directly to the display.
- Wipe gently, then dry. Use minimal pressure to lift the mark. Follow with a clean, dry section of the cloth to remove moisture and streaks.
- Wait until the display is completely dry before reconnecting power. Samsung advises letting the monitor air-dry fully before reconnecting it.
What to avoid—and why
- Paper towels, rough towels, and abrasive pads: They can scratch a delicate display surface. Use a soft microfiber cloth instead.
- Directly spraying liquid: Liquid can run to the display’s edges. ROG’s OLED guide puts it plainly: “One rule matters more than any other: never spray liquid directly onto the monitor.”
- Hard pressure: It is unnecessary for routine dust and smudge removal. Use a gentle touch and only the moisture needed to remove a mark.
- Household glass cleaner, ammonia, solvents, and alcohol: Do not use these unless the official instructions for your exact model explicitly permit them. ASUS and Samsung general monitor guidance warns against alcohol and other household cleaning substances. Advice attributed to QD-OLED-specific sources is not consistent enough to establish that alcohol is safe for every monitor.
Why your monitor’s manual matters for cleaners
Manufacturer guidance agrees on the basics: microfiber, gentle wiping, and no direct spraying. Chemical-cleaner recommendations are less consistent. An instruction for one brand or display surface should not be treated as approval for another model. Before using anything beyond distilled or purified water, check the cleaning and surface-care instructions in your monitor’s official manual. If it does not clearly approve a product, do not assume it is safe.
Samsung’s Canada monitor-cleaning page was last updated May 24, 2025; ASUS’s global FAQ was last updated March 23, 2026. ROG’s OLED guide provides practical cleaning steps but does not show a publication date in the available page information. These sources support a cautious water-and-microfiber method, not a universal chemical-cleaner formula.
