In Fate/EXTRA Record, claiming the Holy Grail means winning the Moon Holy Grail War: explore the digital world SE.RA.PH, prepare for a duel, and defeat rival Masters and their Servants. The remake is announced for Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28, 2027, so this is an overview of its published premise and systems—not a playable walkthrough.
What does it mean to claim the Holy Grail?
The Moon Holy Grail War takes place in SE.RA.PH, a digital world connected to the Moon Cell Automaton. Aniplex describes 128 Masters competing for the Grail, with each Master fighting alongside a Servant—a hero drawn from human history—in pursuit of a wish. The objective is to win the tournament, not to find a Grail in an exploration area.
The official Fate/EXTRA Record site frames the contest around a seven-day period before a duel to the death. Those days are for learning about an opponent and preparing. The overview does not publish a day-by-day route or the exact choices needed to win.

Choose one of three Servants
You contract with one of three named Servants: Saber, Archer, or Caster. The publisher says their distinct approaches and the bond you build with them affect cards and abilities. The available announcements do not give enough detail to rank them or prescribe one as the best choice.

Explore and learn who you are facing
Exploration takes place in digital dungeons or arena floors, where you encounter enemies and gather information. In the September 3, 2026 PlayStation Blog announcement, Aniplex Social Media and Community Manager Takashi Kimura explains that identifying an opposing Servant’s True Name matters because it is tied to that Servant’s fighting style and weaknesses. That makes information-gathering part of preparation, rather than a detail separate from the battles.
Build a deck for strategic Command Card battles
The remake features a revamped Command Card system. The PlayStation Blog names Attack, Guard, and Skill commands and describes customizable decks; the official site also lists Items and Support actions. These are the announced building blocks for combat, but no complete card rules, encounter solutions, or optimal deck lists have been published in the overview.

What is confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2?
XSEED Games and Marvelous USA announced the worldwide launch date as January 28, 2027, on September 3, 2026. Their announcement lists Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5; the official site also lists Steam. The platform list is an announcement, not a performance comparison: the available information does not establish Switch 2 resolution, frame rate, storage requirements, or differences from other versions.
For Switch 2, the publisher announced a $69.99 standard physical edition described as fully on cartridge. It also announced a $99.99 physical Limited Edition, including the game, a custom outer box, a three-disc soundtrack combining the new score and original Fate/Extra soundtrack, a Steelbook case, and an art book with more than 100 pages of original and concept art. These are Americas prices and edition details announced September 3, 2026, not confirmation of current retailer stock.

Older pages may show a Spring 2026 release window. TYPE-MOON announced a postponement in March 2026 after that planned window, saying development would continue while the publisher and development structure were reconsidered.
