The October 2026 free upgrade is for METRO 2033 Redux and METRO: Last Light Redux. If you already own either game, you do not need to buy it again: use the account and store where you own it, then check for the update on its scheduled release date. This is a quality-of-life update, not a remake or remaster. PLAION’s official FAQ describes its scope and rollout.
Check that you own an eligible Metro game
The update covers METRO 2033 Redux and METRO: Last Light Redux. Existing owners receive the update free, and new purchases of either game automatically include the updated version, according to PLAION’s FAQ and Deep Silver’s announcement.

Install the update from your game library
PLAION confirms free eligibility and the schedule, but its Redux FAQ does not document a separate claim button or exact navigation steps for each platform. On or after your platform’s release date, sign in to the account that owns the eligible Redux game, open its library, and check the game’s update status. If no update appears, confirm you have selected the correct Redux title and owning account, then use that platform’s official update or support controls.
Epic Games Launcher: prompt a manual update
Epic’s automatic updates are enabled by default in most cases. If the update is not installing automatically, PLAION’s general Epic Games Launcher guide gives these manual steps:

- Allow the launcher to download and install the update.
This is Epic’s general update procedure, not a special Redux claim flow; the button may not appear until the update is available.
What the free upgrade changes—and what it does not
PLAION describes the release as a quality-of-life update bringing visual, performance, and platform enhancements to modern hardware. The FAQ explicitly says it is not a remaster or remake, and that it does not include ray tracing. It does not provide install-size figures, performance percentages, or benchmark results, so those should not be assumed.
