To download a game you already own, open Games home > Game Library > Your Collection, select the game, then choose Download. The right path differs for a new purchase, a PlayStation Plus monthly game, or a catalog title, so check which kind of access you have before troubleshooting.
Download a game you already own
- From the PS5 Games home screen, open Game Library.
- Select Your Collection, then choose the game.
- Select Download. The game installs automatically; some titles let you play an available portion before the full download finishes. PlayStation’s download instructions and the PS5 Quick Start Guide describe this flow.
To download add-on content, open the game’s Add-Ons section and select the add-on you own.

Buy and download a new game
Connect the PS5 to the internet and sign in to the PlayStation account you want to use for the purchase. Sony’s PS5 Quick Start Guide states that both an internet connection and account sign-in are needed to purchase and download games.
Find the game in PlayStation Store, complete the purchase, then choose the download option shown after checkout. You can also find a purchased game later in Games home > Game Library > Your Collection.

Claim a PlayStation Plus game
Monthly Games
On PS5, go to Games home > PlayStation Plus > Benefits > Monthly Games, highlight the game, and select Download. Sony says monthly games are available while your PlayStation Plus membership is active. This is a membership benefit, not the same as buying the game outright. See PlayStation’s instructions for claiming monthly games.
Game Catalog and Classics Catalog
PlayStation Plus Extra includes access to the Game Catalog; Premium includes the Game Catalog and Classics Catalog. Catalog games are not permanent purchases: availability can change, and individual titles may have removal dates. Classic PS3 games are streaming-only. Check the catalog listing and your membership tier before starting a download or stream. Details are in PlayStation’s Game Catalog guide.

Download a game remotely with the PlayStation App
- Pair or link your PS5 with the PlayStation App.
- In the app, open Game Library > Purchased, select the game, then choose Download to Console.
- If the download does not start, make sure the console has Stay Connected to the Internet enabled and is in Rest Mode. Sony lists these requirements in its PlayStation App features guide.
If a game you bought is missing
- Check Games home > Game Library > Your Collection while signed in to the account that made the purchase.
- Review Transaction History to confirm the purchase or claim completed.
- On PS5, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Game and App Services to see content applied to the account.
- If the transaction is confirmed but the entitlement still does not appear, contact PlayStation Support.
