On PS5, go to Games home > PlayStation Plus > Benefits > Monthly Games, highlight the game, then select Download. You need an active PlayStation Plus membership to claim and play a Monthly Game.
Claim a Monthly Game on PS5
- From the PS5 Games home screen, scroll right and select PlayStation Plus.
- Open the Benefits tab and select Monthly Games.
- Highlight the game you want and select Download. Follow Sony’s Monthly Games instructions if the menu labels or layout differ in your region.
Sony says new Monthly Games are added each calendar month and are available to download and play at no extra cost while your membership is active. The monthly selection changes, so a title may not remain available to claim indefinitely.
Which PlayStation Plus membership do you need?
Sony’s US plan comparison lists Monthly Games with all three membership tiers. Extra and Premium add separate catalog benefits; you do not need either tier just to claim a Monthly Game.

These are distinct benefits in Sony’s US plan comparison. A game in the Game Catalog or Classics Catalog is not the same as a Monthly Game: catalog access has its own tier requirements, and catalog titles can leave the service.

Can you keep playing after claiming it?
Adding a Monthly Game to your library is not the same as buying it outright. Sony says you can download and play a claimed Monthly Game as long as you have an active PlayStation Plus plan. If the membership lapses, access to the claimed game is unavailable until membership is active again.
Start the download remotely
You can initiate a download to your PS5 from a web browser or the PlayStation App instead of selecting the game on the console. Sony’s remote download guidance says the console must be logged in to the same account. Automatic-download setup affects when the transfer begins: if it is not configured, the download may start the next time the console is turned on.

If Monthly Games or Download is missing
- Check the account and membership: Make sure the PS5 is using the account with PlayStation Plus access and that the plan is active.
- Look under Benefits: Monthly Games are listed separately from the Game Catalog and Classics Catalog.
- Check regional wording: The steps here follow Sony’s US support instructions. Menu labels, membership names, availability, and monthly selections can vary by region.
