There is no single best Z Ability or Equipment setup for every Dragon Ball Legends team. Choose your battle mode and intended fighters first, then match Z Ability targets to your team and equip each character with eligible items whose effects suit that character. Check the current in-game descriptions before committing resources, since character and Equipment details can change.

How to choose Z Abilities

Z Abilities are active from the start of battle when their character is in your party. They affect the party members named in the ability text, even when the character providing the ability is not one of the three fighters you deploy. Some abilities improve at particular Limit Break levels, so compare the effect shown for your character’s current star level.

Start with your battle members and team identity

Decide which characters you expect to fight with, then read each Z Ability’s target conditions. Check for matching Tags and any other requirements; an ability only helps characters covered by its text. The game’s beginner party-building event uses a Saiyan team as an example and recommends abilities that apply to Tag: Saiyan. It also teaches players to filter characters by Tag, open the Ability tab in character details, and verify on the party formation screen that abilities are applying.

Use support slots to add relevant abilities

Because a party member’s Z Ability can apply while that character is not deployed, support slots can contribute abilities while your selected fighters do the battling. Build those slots around targets that actually match the fighters you plan to use rather than filling them with unrelated high-star characters.

Dragon Ball Super Card Game Masters: Ultra Bout Set 4 – Impact Beyond Dimensions Booster Box (B31)
  • Official Dragon Ball Super Masters Expansion Ultra Bout Set 4: Impact Beyond Dimensions (B31).
  • Factory Sealed Booster Box Contains 24 booster packs with 12 cards per pack.
  • 178 Total Card Types Includes Commons, Super Rares, Secret Rares, Concept Rares and two God Rare cards.
  • New Characters & Fusion Warriors Features cards from Super Dragon Ball Heroes including Aeos, Warrior in Black and additional Fusion Warrior support.
  • English Edition Official Bandai English-language release.

Check Limit Break and special ability types

Some Z Abilities are enhanced at ★3, ★6, or ★7 and above. Compare the ability displayed at the character’s current Limit Break rather than assuming two characters provide equivalent support. Zenkai, ULTRA, Assault Z, and Support Z abilities have distinct conditions or affected members; check the character details and help for the mode you are playing instead of treating them as ordinary Z Abilities.

Apply Leader Bonus only where the mode supports it

In regular modes and Super Space-Time Rush, a participating Leader shares Z Ability effects with all party members, and receives the effects of all party members’ Z Abilities. Co-op/Raid, Tournament of Power, and Guild Battle do not have a Leader slot, according to the game’s party help. Do not plan around Leader Bonus in a mode without that slot.

How to choose Equipment

Equipment effects apply to the character wearing the item, not to the whole party. The game allows up to three different Equipment items on each party character, provided that character meets each item’s conditions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Check eligibility first. Inspect the item’s conditions, which can include element, character Tags, or Limit Break. An item that looks powerful is not an option if the intended wearer does not qualify.
  2. Match effects to the wearer. Compare what each item actually boosts with the individual character’s role and weaknesses. Choose up to three distinct eligible items for each character.
  3. Compare slot values and effects. Slot colors indicate relative ability strength, while rank reflects the combined strength of an Equipment’s abilities. The actual effects matter more than rank alone: a high-ranked item is useful only if its bonuses fit the wearer.
  4. Consider upgrade and awakening requirements. The game recommends judging Equipment after upgrading, because rank is finalized at maximum upgrade. Platinum Equipment has fixed values and cannot be upgraded. Awakened Equipment may have stronger abilities, but can have stricter conditions or be restricted in some modes; check the item before spending materials.

Use recommendations with context

In-game Recommended Equipment is based on items used by players at high Battle Rank when that usage data is available. For characters with little Rating Match use, the game instead shows all Equipment they can use. Treat a recommendation as a useful starting point, not a guarantee that it is the best fit for your character or mode. Recommended Allies follows a similar usage-based approach and fallback.

Use the game’s tools to verify a build

Check Z Ability coverage

Use the character list’s Tag filters to identify candidates, then open each character’s details and select the Ability tab. On the party formation screen, check that the expected abilities are applying. The beginner party-building event demonstrates this approach with Saiyan, Lineage of Evil, and Sagas From the Movies parties.

Review Equipment and acquisition options

Use the Equipment Archive to inspect ability effects, equip conditions, and where an item can be obtained. Its “How to Get” information lists Stories by greatest chance to obtain, according to the Items Help page.

Fortnite Physical Gift Card
  • An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
  • If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
  • The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
  • Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

A practical way to compare team options

When several configurations meet the basic requirements, compare them in this order:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Coverage: How many of your intended fighters satisfy each Z Ability’s targets?
  • Strength: What does each ability provide at the source character’s current Limit Break, and does it have additional activation requirements?
  • Mode rules: Does the mode have a Leader slot, Supporters, or restrictions that change which effects or Equipment can be used?
  • Equipment fit: Are the items eligible for their wearers, and do their actual effects suit those characters?
  • Resource cost: Is the improvement worth the materials needed to upgrade or awaken the Equipment?
  • Recommendation context: Is an in-game suggestion based on high-rank usage, or is it showing all usable items because usage data is limited?

Supporters have a separate deck and Support Z Abilities, so check the relevant mode’s rules rather than assuming they work like party members in standard modes. For any build, the current in-game ability descriptions, Equipment conditions, and mode help are the final checks.
