Build the hero who solves your account’s next specific problem—not simply the one ranked highest on a tier list. Identify the mode holding back your progress, check whether your roster and equipment need that hero’s role, then weigh how you can obtain and develop them before spending scarce skill materials.
Start with the bottleneck you need to clear
Write down the next concrete goal: for example, assembling an early Hunt team or getting through a PvE system that currently blocks progress. Then ask what is failing. If the team lacks damage, another damage dealer may help; if it cannot survive, a suitable tank or soul weaver may matter more. A hero’s value depends on the task and your account, not just a general ranking.
Community progression guides put early PvE and Hunt development near the front for newer accounts, but that is a suggested route, not a universal order. Your current roster may already cover a guide’s recommended role, or your immediate objective may be different. [itechguides.com]
Compare the candidates against your roster and goal
For each candidate, identify the job they would do in the activity you want to improve. Compare that job with what your existing heroes already do adequately. A second unit with the same role may be less urgent than filling a gap, unless the activity specifically benefits from a different element, skill set, or team setup.

| Question | What to check |
|---|---|
| What problem does the hero solve? | Name the mode or progression bottleneck and the role needed there. |
| Does the roster already cover it? | Check whether an existing hero performs the role well enough for the current task. |
| How accessible is the candidate? | Distinguish a hero already owned from one obtainable through Connections or progression, and from a Selective Summon choice. |
| Can you fund the whole build? | Account for levels, promotion, awakening, skills, gold, energy, charms, and equipment—not just the promotion. |
| Can you equip them now? | Check whether your available gear and its stats support the role you intend to use. |
Use accessible progression heroes when they fit
For an early Ice Hunt route, a September 2026 community starter guide gives examples including Furious as a Connection defense-break anchor, Sigret as an Ice damage dealer from Hunt missions, and Alexa as a 3-star Ice option. It also calls for a suitable soul weaver. These are examples for that progression path, not a mandatory lineup for every account or a guarantee that acquisition details remain unchanged. Check current in-game availability and descriptions before planning around a specific hero. [itechguides.com]
The same guide distinguishes Selective Summon, Connection, and Hunt-mission access. That distinction matters: an accessible hero who fills a real gap can be a more practical investment than a theoretically stronger unit you do not have or cannot build yet.

Count the full development cost
Hero development draws on several different pools. Leveling uses EXP; promotion uses Spirit Blooms; awakening uses runes and catalysts; and skill upgrades consume MolaGora. Gold, energy, equipment charms, and usable gear compete for resources too. Reaching the promotion threshold does not by itself make a hero ready to contribute.
Protect scarce skill materials
An October 2026 beginner guide warns against wasting MolaGora. Before spending it, make sure the hero is a deliberate choice for the target activity and that the planned skill investment addresses a real need. Do not assume every skill must be upgraded immediately.

Use the right resource for leveling
The same guide recommends using Penguins for EXP rather than feeding useful heroes. Keep heroes you may need; use the leveling resource intended for that purpose.
Promotion and leveling are separate decisions. A reproduced in-game help statement in Hideout Guides says promotion raises a hero’s maximum level by 10; the guide reports a maximum level of 60. [itechguides.com]

Check whether your gear can support the build
Equipment is part of the investment, not a finishing detail. The October 2026 gear guide describes six equipment slots per hero and explains that main stats and variable substats affect builds. Compare candidates against equipment you can actually assemble now; an endgame build on paper may not be feasible with your current gear. [itechguides.com]
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsAs you compare gear, focus on whether the available pieces support the candidate’s intended role in the target activity. The reproduced in-game help text in Hideout Guides calls equipment an easy way to raise a hero’s stats; that does not mean any set of pieces will make a poorly matched hero or role work. Make one investment, then reassess
- Name the next bottleneck. Choose the specific mode or progression task you want to improve.
- Pick the missing role. Identify whether the team needs damage, a soul weaver, a tank, or utility, and check for overlap with heroes already doing that job.
- Check access. Confirm whether the candidate is already owned or available through a Connection, Selective Summon, or progression reward. Recheck current in-game details for time-sensitive availability.
- Budget the complete build. Check EXP, Spirit Blooms, runes, catalysts, MolaGora, gold, energy, charms, and equipment before committing.
- Assign the next resources to one hero. Decide who gets the next promotion, skill materials, and usable gear. Once the bottleneck changes, run the comparison again.
Community guides are useful starting points, but hero recommendations and acquisition routes can change with balance updates, events, and account progression. Treat specific lineups as contextual examples and use current in-game information when a decision depends on a hero’s present availability or description.
