Choose the store that sells the exact game edition for the device you’ll play on, then compare its final regional checkout price, refund terms, and any title-specific cross-device entitlement. Steam, PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, and Epic Games Store do not provide interchangeable licenses, and a sale price alone does not make one option best.
Start with your device and the exact edition
First identify where you intend to play: a PlayStation console, an Xbox console, a Windows PC, or another supported device. Then check that the exact game and edition are listed for that platform and account. A purchase in one storefront should not be assumed to grant access in another ecosystem. For example, buying a PC version does not by itself establish a console license.

Compare like with like. Editions can differ in included content, so check the listing for the edition name and its contents before comparing prices. If you want to play across devices, look for an explicit entitlement for that specific title rather than relying on the store name.

Refund policies differ by store, purchase type, region, and whether you have started downloading or playing. Treat the terms below as the cited store policies, not as a guarantee that every request qualifies. Local consumer-protection rights may also apply.

| Store and scope | Published rule for game purchases | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Steam | Valve’s general voluntary rule is to request a refund within two weeks of purchase and with less than two hours of playtime. Valve says users outside the rules may still ask; exceptions and separate rules for other purchase types apply. The Steam page says it was last updated April 23, 2024. Steam Refunds | Check the current policy and whether your purchase type has a separate rule. |
| PlayStation Store (US policy) | The cited US policy generally allows cancellation of a game or add-on within 14 days if downloading or streaming has not begun. A started download is generally ineligible unless the content is faulty. PlayStation Store cancellation policy (US) | Confirm the policy for your country; the cited terms are specifically for the United States. |
| Epic Games Store (PC and Mac) | PC and Mac purchases marked “refundable” or “self-refundable” can qualify within 14 days of purchase and with under two hours of runtime. Mobile purchases have a different two-hour-from-purchase window. Epic Games Store Refund Policy | Check the product’s refund marking and the terms for the device you are buying for. |
| Xbox Store | A detailed digital-game refund threshold is not stated in the cited sources. | Read the current Xbox refund terms for your region and purchase before relying on a refund. |
PlayStation and Epic expressly note that local or EU consumer rights may affect how their policies apply. Check the terms applicable to your location rather than assuming one store’s rules carry over to another.

Xbox Play Anywhere
Xbox Play Anywhere is a title-specific digital entitlement. Microsoft says participating games bought digitally through the Xbox Store or Windows Store can be played on supported Xbox consoles, Windows 10/11 PCs, and supported handheld devices without an additional purchase. The Xbox account connects progress, add-ons, and achievements. Microsoft also says the same game cannot be played simultaneously on the listed devices through this entitlement. Check the game’s listing for the Play Anywhere designation; it applies only to participating digital titles. Xbox Play Anywhere

Other storefronts
Do not assume that a PlayStation Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store purchase transfers to another platform. The available terms do not establish a general cross-buy rule for those stores. Check the specific game’s listing and terms for any cross-save, cross-progression, or cross-buy feature; these are distinct benefits and one does not automatically imply another.

Epic says it supports regional pricing in more than 190 countries and over 30 territories, and offers developers suggested regional prices informed by exchange rates and local purchasing power. That coverage figure describes Epic’s regional-pricing support, not a promise that a particular game is available or cheaper in every market. Epic Games Store regional pricing
Steam says your store country must match the country where you currently reside. Changing the country requires a local payment method, and the cited guidance says a country change can be made once every three months when the conditions are met. Steam Store Country

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

Use this checkout checklist
- Confirm the platform: make sure the listing is for the device you plan to use.
- Match the edition: compare the same edition and included content across stores.
- Check cross-device benefits: look for an explicit feature such as the Xbox Play Anywhere designation on that title.
- Read the applicable refund terms: account for region, download or streaming status, playtime, and product eligibility.
- Compare final local prices: review the checkout total in your region, not just a headline sale price.
Store credit is not a workaround for choosing a store
Wallet funds and gift cards are platform-specific and have their own restrictions. PlayStation’s cited US policy says wallet top-ups are non-refundable; Steam says Valve cannot refund Steam Wallet cards bought from third parties. A gift card therefore does not make a purchase transferable between storefronts. PlayStation Store cancellation policy (US) and Steam Refunds
