The right wall-mount setup for a 4K TV is the one that fits your exact television and your wall—not a mount labeled “4K.” Resolution does not determine compatibility. Before buying, confirm the TV’s VESA hole pattern, weight and screw requirements, then match those details to the mount and the wall’s construction. If your TV will sit on its stand, you do not need a wall mount.
What parts do you need to mount a 4K TV?
For a wall-mounted TV, the essential part is a wall bracket compatible with the television and the surface it will attach to. The bracket must support the TV’s weight and match its VESA mounting-hole pattern. Installation also requires the correct screws and any hardware specified by the TV and mount manufacturers.
Other items depend on the job: a stud finder, level and drill can help with installation, while a cable-routing kit is optional. Samsung lists a stud finder, carpenter’s level and power drill among suggested tools, but the mount and TV instructions determine the actual hardware and procedure.
A TV using its supplied tabletop stand does not need a wall bracket. Follow the television’s instructions for attaching and placing the stand.

Check compatibility before choosing a wall mount
- Find the TV’s exact model number. Use the label on the television or its settings, then consult that model’s manual or manufacturer support page.
- Confirm its VESA pattern. VESA is the spacing between the four mounting holes, stated in millimetres as horizontal × vertical. Measure only if the manufacturer’s documentation does not provide it; do not assume screen size or resolution identifies the pattern.
- Check the television’s weight. Compare the TV’s weight, without its stand if the manufacturer specifies it that way, with the mount’s supported load. Follow both manufacturers’ definitions.
- Verify screw requirements. Check the screw diameter, thread and length specified for the model, including any bracket thickness or spacers described in its documentation.
- Confirm the wall and fixing method. The wall material, framing, anchors and installation conditions must suit the combined TV-and-mount load. Follow the mount instructions for that surface; seek professional help if you cannot verify it.
Samsung’s US support page gives example VESA patterns of 100 × 100, 200 × 100, 200 × 200, 400 × 400 and 600 × 400 mm, and associates examples with screen-size ranges. These are examples from Samsung, not a universal size-to-pattern chart: the pattern for your exact model is what matters. Choose fixed, tilting or full-motion

These are general differences, not a guarantee that every product offers the same range of movement or clearance. Check the specific mount’s dimensions, supported VESA patterns, weight rating and included hardware before purchase. Roku’s mounting tips and TCL’s guide describe the three styles.

Get the screws and wall fixings right
Do not select TV mounting screws by appearance or assume a generic “universal” screw kit is safe. The wrong diameter, thread or length may fail to secure the TV; a screw that is too long can damage internal components. Start with the hardware supplied for the TV or mount and check the TV’s model-specific manual before buying replacements.

That is a model-specific instruction, not a formula to apply to every brand. Check the TV documentation and mount instructions together, including whether hardware supplied with one component is intended for the other.

Wall anchors and fasteners are just as dependent on the surface. Use only the fixing method specified for the wall type and load. LG notes that wall material and installation conditions affect suitability and recommends a professional technician where needed to avoid damage. LG’s wall-mounting steps explain why the installation surface matters.
Install and place the TV safely
- Read both instruction sets. Use the TV manual for the model’s mounting points, screws and placement guidance, and the bracket manual for assembly, hole spacing and surface-specific fixings.
- Check the location. Respect the TV manufacturer’s guidance for ventilation, heat, sunlight and water exposure. Samsung UK recommends 10 cm of clearance around the top, bottom and sides of its sets; check another model’s manual rather than treating that figure as universal.
- Mark and check the mounting position. Use the mount’s instructions and a level to lay out the fixing points. Confirm the wall and fixing locations are suitable before drilling.
- Secure the mount as directed. Use the fasteners and installation method specified for the wall material. Do not proceed if the wall construction or load capacity is uncertain.
- Lift and attach the TV with help. Samsung UK says to use two people and recommends four for TVs 82 inches or larger. Roku also advises two people or professional help. These are manufacturer recommendations, not universal code requirements.
- Check the final fit and connections. Make sure the TV is retained as the mount maker directs, sits level as intended and has enough clearance for ventilation and cables.
Samsung UK warns: “Unless mounted correctly, the TV may slide or fall and cause serious injury and damage.” If you are unsure about the wall, lifting or installation, use a qualified professional. Samsung UK’s mounting instructions include its placement and handling guidance.

Plan cable routing without hiding an ordinary power cord
Cable management is optional, but it can make a wall-mounted setup neater. Samsung US discusses cable-routing kits and in-wall-rated cables for wiring routed inside a wall. Do not conceal an ordinary TV power cord inside the wall; use products listed and rated for in-wall use, and follow applicable local requirements. If you are uncertain about the correct method, ask a qualified installer.
When a professional installation makes sense
Consider professional help if you cannot identify the wall material or suitable fixing points, are uncertain about the bracket’s load capacity, cannot confirm the model’s screw requirements, or do not feel safe lifting and positioning the TV. LG recommends a professional technician when installation conditions could risk damage. A professional is also a practical option when the mounting instructions are unclear or the job requires routing cables through a wall.
