Choose a Samsung TV size by measuring the distance from your usual seat to the planned screen location, then use resolution-specific viewing guidance as a starting point. Room dimensions alone do not determine the right size: seating positions, the exact TV’s width and stand, intended use, budget and delivery access all matter.
Start with viewing distance, not room size
Measure from where you normally sit to the screen’s planned position. TV size in inches is the diagonal measurement of the display—not its width—so it cannot tell you by itself whether the set will fit a console or wall.
If several people use the room, consider both the closest and farthest regular seats. A size that feels immersive from the main sofa may be uncomfortable for someone sitting much closer, while a distant seat may make a smaller screen harder to enjoy.

Use Samsung’s distance guidance as a starting point
Samsung’s current Canada buying guide gives separate reference distances for general viewing and 4K viewing. Its examples are:

These are Samsung Canada’s recommendations, accessed in 2026, not a guarantee that a particular size will feel comfortable in your room. Samsung says its general-distance calculation multiplies screen size by 1.2; its separate 4K reference allows closer seating because higher resolution can retain detail at a shorter distance. The guide also describes an approximately 30–40-degree field of view as ideal for a comfortable, cinematic image. Treat that as Samsung’s guidance, not an independently verified standard. Guidance varies by market and method. Samsung UK’s support page, updated September 15, 2021, suggests dividing viewing distance in inches by two for an approximate screen size; its 10-foot example gives about 60 inches, rounded to 65 inches. That is a different rule from the newer Canada guide’s resolution-specific table, so do not mix their results as though they were one formula. Decide whether a larger 4K screen suits your viewing
A 4K model may be viewed closer than a lower-resolution screen under Samsung’s guidance, which can make a larger screen practical even when the sofa is not far away. Resolution is only one factor, though: a screen that dominates the room, sits too close to a viewer, or is awkward for side seats may not be the best choice.

For context, Samsung Jordan gives a 43-inch bedroom example at around 1.3–1.4 m (4.3–4.5 ft) general viewing distance, a 65-inch standard living-room example at 2.0 m (6.5 ft), and larger screens for longer-distance multimedia rooms. Check the exact model and room layout
Two Samsung TVs with the same diagonal can differ in their overall dimensions and stand arrangement. Before choosing, look up the exact model’s specifications and check:
- Screen width and height, plus depth with the stand attached.
- Stand or feet spacing, and whether the console is wide and deep enough to support them safely.
- Space for a soundbar, streaming devices, cables and ventilation.
- For wall mounting, wall support, mount compatibility and a height that is comfortable from your seated position.
- Whether the picture remains easy to view from the room’s regular seating positions.

Compare two plausible sizes before buying
If both sizes are within reach of Samsung’s distance references, compare them against the things that affect your own room rather than defaulting to the bigger option.

- Other seats: Will the closest regular viewer be too near, or the farthest seat too far away?
- Physical fit: Do width, height, depth and stand spacing work with the console or wall?
- Use: Do you mainly watch films, sports, play games or use the TV for everyday viewing?
- Budget: Does the larger option fit your budget without forcing a compromise you would rather avoid?
- Delivery route: Can the packaged TV get through doors, hallways, elevators and stairs?
When both candidates fit these checks, the decision comes down to preference: a more enveloping picture versus a screen that takes up less visual and physical space.
Measure delivery access for a large screen
Do not check only the final location. Measure the route into the room, including doorways, hallways, elevators, stair turns and other tight spots. Compare those clearances with the packaged TV’s shipping dimensions, which may be larger than the set itself. If the available product information does not make the package dimensions clear, confirm them with the seller before ordering.
