AMD lists a 450 W minimum PSU recommendation for both desktop RX 9060 XT reference configurations, and each uses one PCIe 8-pin power connector. Treat 450 W as a baseline for the graphics card configuration—not a guarantee that a 450 W PSU will suit every gaming PC. The right capacity depends on your CPU, the exact RX 9060 XT model, and the rest of the system.
What PSU do you need for an RX 9060 XT?
Start with the specification for your card. AMD gives both reference versions a 450 W minimum PSU recommendation, but their typical board power differs:
| Reference card | Typical board power | AMD minimum PSU recommendation | Additional power connector |
|---|---|---|---|
| RX 9060 XT 16 GB | 160 W | 450 W | One 8-pin |
| RX 9060 XT 8 GB | 150 W | 450 W | One 8-pin |
These are AMD’s published desktop product specifications: RX 9060 XT 16 GB and RX 9060 XT 8 GB. The typical board power figure describes the graphics card, not the power draw of the whole PC.
Is a 450 W power supply enough?
It may meet AMD’s reference-card baseline, but the number alone cannot establish that a particular 450 W PSU is suitable for your entire build. The CPU and other components also draw power, and the GPU maker’s recommendation may differ for a partner card with a different design. Check your exact card’s product page and manual, then assess PSU capacity against the full parts list.

Check the GPU’s exact power requirements
RX 9060 XT cards from different manufacturers may not share every specification. Before choosing a PSU, find the exact model name on the graphics card or purchase listing and consult that manufacturer’s page and manual. Use its stated PSU guidance and connector requirements rather than assuming AMD’s reference figures automatically apply to every version.
Confirm the PSU has a PCIe 8-pin lead
AMD’s reference specifications list one 8-pin additional power connector for each RX 9060 XT desktop configuration. Check that the PSU has a compatible PCIe 8-pin lead and follow the graphics card manual when connecting it. Wattage and connector compatibility are separate checks: a PSU can meet a wattage target yet lack the required lead.

How to compare PSU options for your build
Use this checklist when narrowing down power supplies:

- GPU lead: Verify that a compatible PCIe 8-pin connector is included.
- Case fit: Confirm the PSU’s physical form factor and dimensions fit your case.
- Other buying factors: Compare price, warranty, noise, and efficiency using current listings and manufacturer documentation.
A 550 W PSU can be a practical shopping search target, but it is not AMD’s stated minimum and is not a universal recommendation for every RX 9060 XT system. Choose based on the parts in your PC and the exact card documentation; no single capacity can be specified from the GPU name alone.
