Choose a Greenworks battery by matching the voltage platform printed on your tool, then check the exact tool model for fit exceptions. Choose a charger designated for that same voltage platform. Only after compatibility is confirmed should you select battery capacity (Ah) for the runtime you need.
Start with your tool’s voltage platform
Greenworks sells 24V, 40V, 60V, and 80V product platforms. Its compatibility rule is that batteries are interchangeable only with tools on the same voltage platform: a 24V or 80V battery, for example, cannot be used in a 40V tool. The Greenworks battery compatibility guidance is the place to confirm the platform rule.
Read the tool’s label or manual and note both its voltage and exact model number before shopping. A shared Greenworks brand name—or a battery’s Ah rating—does not establish compatibility across platforms.
Check the exact model for fit exceptions
Matching voltage is necessary, but some battery and tool combinations have additional restrictions. Greenworks’ batteries and chargers FAQ identifies two examples:
#1 Best Overall
- GENUINE GREENWORKS 40V CHARGER
- CHARGE TIME - Charges 40V 2.0Ah battery in 60 minutes / 40V 4.0Ah battery in 120 minutes
- DIAGNOSTIC LED – Communicates current charge level and diagnostics
- COMPATABILITY - Charges all Greenworks 40V lithium-ion batteries
- WALL MOUNTABLE – Keep your workspace organized by mounting it on the wall
- Three 80V 20-inch snow thrower models—2600402, 2605202, and 2601302—manufactured before September 2017 accept only specified 2.0Ah or 2.5Ah battery models.
- The 60V 8.0Ah battery model 2957102 has height-related exclusions. Greenworks FAQ pages differ on which 60V tools are affected, so do not rely on a single general list as complete.
For the 2957102 or any potentially affected tool, check the exact tool model’s current manual or ask Greenworks support to confirm physical fit before ordering. An exception on one model does not establish a restriction for every tool in the platform.
Choose battery capacity for the runtime you need
Ah (amp-hours) is a capacity rating. Greenworks says a higher-Ah battery provides more runtime, but the actual runtime depends on the tool and conditions; the manufacturer’s general guidance does not establish a run time for every battery-and-tool pairing. First confirm the battery is supported by the exact tool, then choose a capacity that suits how long you want to work between charges.
Do not compare Ah numbers across different voltage platforms as a compatibility test. A larger Ah figure cannot make a battery from the wrong platform suitable for a tool.

- Highest voltage in the industry, 80V Li-Ion technology closes gap between gas and electric
- Air vent allows for faster charge time and reduces heat while charging
- LED light indicator notifies when battery is completely charged
- Compatible with multiple tools, all gas alternative professional grade lawn tools
- Compatible with all Greenworks Pro 80v batteries
Match the charger to the battery platform
Greenworks says each product line has designated charger models that can charge batteries within that voltage platform regardless of Ah rating. This does not mean that a charger works across different voltage platforms. Check the charger model against the battery or tool documentation, and buy a charger for the confirmed platform. The manufacturer’s charger FAQ describes the designated-platform rule.
Greenworks says its chargers sold in the United States and Canada are designed for 120V outlets. If you are elsewhere, verify the charger label and the local manual; the cited guidance does not establish specifications for other regions.
What to expect from charging speed
Greenworks describes its Fast Charging System as capable of a full charge in as little as 30 minutes, depending on battery Ah rating. That is a broad manufacturer statement, not a guaranteed charge time for every battery and charger combination. Check the specific product documentation for the expected time for your setup.

- Diagnostic LED charging indicator. Communicates current charge level, and any battery or charger issues
- Charges 24V 1.5Ah (BAG711) battery in 45 minutes / Charges 24V 2Ah (BAG708) battery in 60 minutes / Charges 24V 4Ah (BAG709) battery in 120 minutes / Charges 24V 5Ah (BAG710) battery in 150 minutes
- Can be used on bench top or mounted on the wall
Handle charging indicators and temperature issues
If a recently used battery appears fully charged on the charger, Greenworks advises removing it and letting it rest at room temperature for about 10–15 minutes before trying again. For a blinking red status light, its battery and charger troubleshooting guidance recommends this sequence:
Recommended Free Tools
- Remove the battery for one minute, then reinsert it.
- If the red light continues blinking, unplug the charger for one minute, reconnect it, and retry.
- If the problem persists, treat it as a possible battery or charger issue and contact Greenworks support.
A solid red light typically indicates a battery-temperature issue. Let the battery and charger return to room temperature before charging again.
Store batteries and chargers safely
Greenworks recommends keeping batteries indoors in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. When not charging, disconnect the battery and unplug the charger. For extended storage, check the battery every couple of months and recharge it to full if the charge has dropped. Remove the battery once it is fully charged and unplug the charger, following Greenworks’ storage and charging guidance.
Quick Recap
Use this buying checklist
- Record the tool’s voltage platform and exact model from its label or manual.
- Shop only for batteries on that same voltage platform.
- Check the exact tool model for physical-fit or age-related exclusions, especially for the named older 80V snow throwers and 60V 8.0Ah battery model 2957102.
- Select Ah for the runtime you want, once the battery’s compatibility is confirmed.
- Choose a charger designated for that platform and verify the charger model in the product documentation.
- For a charger used outside the United States or Canada, confirm its input rating on the label and in the local manual.
