Choose an Apple Watch case for its screen, weight, comfort, and appearance; choose a band separately by checking that it attaches to your case and fits your measured wrist. There is no official wrist-circumference formula that identifies one correct case size. If you are unsure, try the available case sizes on, then match your wrist measurement to the band’s stated range.
Which Apple Watch case size should you choose?
Start with the exact model and compare the case sizes offered for it. Apple’s model identification page lists Series 11 in 42 mm and 46 mm, SE 3 in 40 mm and 44 mm, and Ultra 3 in 49 mm. The same page also lists Series 12 in 42 mm and 46 mm and Ultra 4 in 49 mm. Because Apple’s lineup changes, check the Apple Watch model identification page for your model and confirm the case size from the engraving on the back of an existing watch.
Apple frames case choice around display size and case weight. A larger display may be easier to read, but it also takes up more space on your wrist. When practical, try both sizes available for your model and consider how each feels and looks during normal wear. Apple does not publish a wrist-circumference threshold for choosing a particular case, so avoid treating wrist size or gender as a rule for case selection. See Apple’s Apple Watch buying guide.

Which bands attach to your Apple Watch case?
Case size determines whether a band can attach; wrist measurement determines whether that band fits you. Apple’s compatibility guidance groups bands by case size as follows:

Check Apple’s band compatibility guidance and the specific band’s product listing before buying. Compatibility does not guarantee that a particular band length, material, or fastening style will suit your wrist or intended activity. For a replacement band, check both the exact watch case size and the band’s listed compatibility rather than relying on a broad label such as “Apple Watch band.”
How do you find your Apple Watch band size?
Choose your case and band style first, then measure your wrist and compare it with the band listing’s stated minimum and maximum wrist sizes. Apple recommends a precise measurement and provides size ranges on its band listings. For Sport Band purchases, select the case size and then the band size; Apple says a Sport Band comes with one size in the box. Other styles may have different sizing or adjustment options, so use the instructions for the particular band.

Use Apple’s updated guide for Solo Loop and Braided Solo Loop
Solo Loop and Braided Solo Loop are fixed-size loop styles, so an accurate size matters. Use Apple’s current sizing guide even if you have bought one before: Apple notes that loop sizing has changed. Follow the current guide linked from Apple’s buying flow rather than relying on a remembered size. See Apple’s band sizing guidance.
Use the printable sizing tool correctly
- Print Apple’s printable band sizing tool at 100% scale. Do not select “fit to page” or otherwise scale it.
- Check the printed credit-card box against a credit card to confirm the print scale.
- Cut out the tool and place its wider end where you would wear your watch.
- Wrap it snugly around your wrist without letting it slide, then read the number at the arrow.
- If the arrow points to a line between two numbers, choose the smaller of the two adjacent sizes.
These instructions come from Apple’s printable sizing tool. A flexible measuring tape is another way to measure wrist circumference, but it is not required when you can use Apple’s tool.

How should an Apple Watch and band fit?
Apple says the watch should fit comfortably and snugly enough for sensor contact. A Solo Loop or Braided Solo Loop should also feel comfortable but snug against the wrist. If you have sensitivity to materials, check the exact band’s materials: Apple notes that some Apple Watch and band components contain nickel, and materials vary by style. For other band styles, consider the fastening method and how easily it can be adjusted during wear. A band can be compatible with the case but still be a poor choice if its available size range does not include your measurement or its material and closure are uncomfortable for your intended use.
