Use face shape to narrow down the look you like, then check the exact Ray-Ban model’s measurements and how it sits on your nose. The familiar styling rule—angular frames for rounded faces, rounded frames for angular faces—is a subjective starting point, not a fit test or a requirement.
Start with frame shape as a style choice
Ray-Ban’s general guidance is to contrast frame shape with face shape: angular frames can add definition to a rounded face, while rounded frames can soften a more angular face. Treat this as an aesthetic convention; there is no need to follow it if another shape is the look you prefer.
Use the rule to shortlist styles, not to decide whether a pair will fit. Wayfarer and Aviator frames are examples to compare, but each model and size variant can have different dimensions. Ray-Ban’s Wayfarer page includes its face-shape guidance.

Ray-Ban expresses frame size using lens width followed by bridge width, in millimeters. Temple markings may also show temple length. Compare these numbers with a pair of glasses you already find comfortable, but use them as a starting point: dimensions need not be identical across models, and product families can have several sizes or versions. Check the listing for the exact frame and size you plan to buy.

For example, one Ray-Ban India Wayfarer listing gives lens width of 50 mm, bridge width of 22 mm, and temple length of 150 mm. Those measurements apply to that listing, not to every Wayfarer.

Choose the coverage you want
Coverage describes how much of your face the lens front covers; it is separate from a size label or face-shape category. Ray-Ban’s US guide uses petite, standard, and generous coverage descriptions. Decide whether you prefer a smaller, closer-to-the-face look or more coverage, then verify the exact frame dimensions rather than assuming that a coverage label guarantees a particular fit.
Check bridge and nose fit
A frame can look balanced against your face and still sit poorly. Ray-Ban’s fit guidance discusses high-bridge, low-bridge, universal, and adjustable nosepad options. If glasses tend to slide, sit too low, or press against your cheeks or temples, look closely at the bridge and nosepad configuration rather than relying on face shape alone. Compare candidate frames before you choose
For each model and size variant, check the same details side by side:
- Shape and style: Which frame shape do you actually want to wear?
- Lens and bridge width: What measurements does the exact listing give?
- Coverage: Where the listing uses petite, standard, or generous, which coverage do you prefer?
- Nose fit: Does the bridge and nosepad configuration suit how frames sit on you?
- Temple length and comfort: Check temple length when listed and consider whether the frame feels comfortable at the sides of your head.
Existing glasses’ markings can help you begin this comparison, but they are not a guarantee that another model with the same numbers—or a different model with slightly different numbers—will feel the same. Ray-Ban’s India size guide says, “for the great majority of people, more then 90% of our customers, Standard Size is the correct one.” That is Ray-Ban’s statement; the page does not give a year or methodology for the figure.
