There is no single best choice for every household: choose Netflix for its mix of programming and viewing options, Hulu for the TV seasons and Hulu Originals you want, or Disney+ for Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. The best value depends on what you watch, whether you’ll accept ads, how many people stream at once, and whether a bundle replaces subscriptions you already pay for.

How do Hulu, Netflix, and Disney+ differ?

Service Best fit What to keep in mind
Netflix Viewers who want a broad mix of programming and choices for picture quality and simultaneous streams. Its ad-supported tier costs less but excludes some titles. Higher tiers add features such as 4K and more simultaneous viewing.
Hulu Viewers who prioritize Hulu’s current and past TV seasons, movies, and Hulu Originals. Hulu content and features depend on the plan and app. Some Hulu content is accessible in Disney+, while more remains in the Hulu app.
Disney+ Fans of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. Standalone and bundle plans are available; check the exact ad status and bundle terms before subscribing.

These are different programming focuses, not an objective ranking of library size or quality. Catalogs can vary by region and change over time; pick based on the shows and films your household actually wants.

What do the plans cost in the U.S.?

The following monthly prices are listed in U.S. dollars on official service pages reviewed October 7, 2026. Taxes, promotions, billing partners, and bundle eligibility can affect what you pay. Confirm the plan and final amount at checkout. Netflix’s U.S. plan table and Disney+’s plan page, dated September 23, 2026 list these prices and features.

Plan Monthly price Key published features
Netflix Standard with ads $8.99 1080p; two simultaneous devices; downloads on two supported devices; some titles unavailable.
Netflix Standard $19.99 Ad-free; 1080p; two simultaneous devices; downloads on two supported devices.
Netflix Premium $26.99 Ad-free; 4K UHD + HDR and spatial audio; four simultaneous devices; downloads on six supported devices.
Disney+ standalone with ads $11.99 Up to 4K UHD/HDR and up to 5.1 audio; multiple simultaneous devices.
Disney+ Premium $18.99 No ads in most on-demand content; up to 4K UHD/HDR and Dolby Atmos; downloads on up to ten devices. Select live/linear programming and promotions may still have ads.
Disney+ and Hulu Bundle Basic $12.99 Both services with ads.
Disney+ and Hulu Bundle Premium $19.99 Both services without ads in their streaming libraries, subject to service-specific exceptions and terms.
Disney+, Hulu, and HBO Max bundle Not stated on the later Disney+ plan page A separate April 24, 2026 Hulu page lists $21.99 with ads and $34.99 without ads; its prices differ from the later Disney+ page, so verify the current checkout price before relying on them. Three separate services and apps; features and device compatibility vary.

Hulu’s official plan page lists standalone and Hulu + Live TV options, but its complete standalone price table was not available in the page information reviewed here. Check Hulu’s live page rather than relying on an unverified standalone price. Hulu says subscriptions require a U.S. location and lists a minimum download speed of 3 Mbps; that is a stated minimum, not a guarantee of smooth playback in every home.

Which service should you choose?

Choose Netflix if viewing options and capacity matter most

Netflix publishes explicit stream and download-device limits. Standard and Standard with ads allow two simultaneous devices; Premium allows four. Their download limits are two supported devices for Standard tiers and six for Premium. These are separate limits: the number of devices allowed to download is not the same as the number that can stream at once. Premium also includes 4K UHD + HDR and spatial audio, subject to supported devices, internet speed, and available titles. Netflix’s plan table lists the tier details.

Choose Hulu if its TV library is your priority

Hulu describes its offering as including current and past TV seasons, movies, and Hulu Originals. If those are the programs you want, compare the Hulu plan that includes them with the precise bundle options available to you. Do not assume that every Hulu title or feature appears in the Disney+ app: Hulu says some content is accessible there, with additional content available only in Hulu. Hulu’s bundle information explains that the services retain distinct content, features, and compatibility rules.

Choose Disney+ for its franchises or a Disney+/Hulu bundle

Disney+ highlights Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic programming. Its Premium plan advertises up to 4K UHD/HDR and Dolby Atmos, but actual playback depends on the title, device, and connection. A Disney+/Hulu bundle may be a better fit if you want both catalogs; compare the $12.99 ad-supported and $19.99 Premium monthly options against what you would otherwise spend. Disney+ notes that third-party billing prices may vary.

How to compare the options for your household

  1. List the shows, films, or franchises you’ll actually watch. Match them to the services’ stated programming focus. No comparable independent library-quality ranking is established by the plan pages.
  2. Set your household’s ad tolerance. Netflix says some titles are unavailable on its ad tier because of licensing restrictions. Disney+ Premium removes ads from most on-demand content, but select live/linear programming and promotional content can still include ads. Check Hulu’s exact component and plan rather than assuming a bundle makes every program ad-free.
  3. Count simultaneous viewers and offline devices separately. If several people watch at once, compare Netflix’s published concurrent-stream limits with your needs. If downloads matter, distinguish supported download devices from simultaneous screens; Disney+ Premium states downloads on up to ten devices.
  4. Compare the total you would pay, not just one plan’s price. If a bundle includes two or three services you genuinely use, compare its current checkout cost with the equivalent individual plans. Avoid counting an unused service as savings.
  5. Check playback support before paying for top-tier quality. 4K, HDR, and Dolby Atmos require compatible devices and content, and picture quality depends on internet speed. Netflix and Disney+ describe their quality as supported or “up to” the listed formats, not a promise for every title.

Will you need a streaming device?

Not necessarily. You can use supported smart TVs, phones, tablets, computers, and other compatible devices. Netflix lists Roku TV/Stick, Amazon Fire TV/Stick, Apple TV, and Chromecast families among supported options. If your TV lacks an app you need, check compatibility for every chosen service before buying a streaming player; a device that supports Netflix does not automatically establish support for Hulu and Disney+. Netflix’s device support page lists its supported device families.
