No—not just any subwoofer. Bose documents three compatible bass modules for the Smart Soundbar 300: the Bass Module 500, Bass Module 700, and Acoustimass 300. Bose does not establish that a third-party or arbitrary subwoofer will work with this soundbar.

Which subwoofers are compatible with the Bose Smart Soundbar 300?

The Bose Smart Soundbar 300 Owner’s Guide says, “You can connect any of these accessories to the soundbar,” and names the Bass Module 700, Bass Module 500, and Acoustimass 300 bass module. Bose’s product pages also list the Soundbar 300 as compatible with the Bass Module 500 and Bass Module 700.

Module What Bose documents What to consider
Bose Bass Module 500 Listed as compatible in the Soundbar 300 Owner’s Guide and Bose’s product guidance. A supported option. Follow the connection method in the applicable guide.
Bose Bass Module 700 Listed as compatible in the Soundbar 300 Owner’s Guide and Bose’s product guidance. Another supported option. The cited compatibility information does not establish a sound-quality ranking against the 500.
Bose Acoustimass 300 Listed as a compatible accessory in the Soundbar 300 Owner’s Guide. Relevant if you already own one or are considering used equipment; verify the exact model and its instructions.

These sources establish compatibility, not a head-to-head performance comparison. Choose based on availability, physical fit, and whether you want a documented Bose-compatible module—not an assumed difference in bass quality.

Can you connect a third-party subwoofer?

Bose’s published compatibility information for the Soundbar 300 names specific Bose modules; it does not say that any subwoofer will work. A cable fitting, a matching connector, or a product’s general claim of being a subwoofer does not establish compatibility. If a model is not among the documented options, confirm compatibility with Bose for that exact model before buying or attempting a connection.

How do you connect a supported bass module?

For the Bass Module 500

  1. Use the Bose app to connect the Bass Module 500 to a Bose Smart Soundbar, following the module’s Owner’s Guide.
  2. Do not assume that the guide’s cable instructions for the Bose TV Speaker or alternate wired soundbar setup apply to the Soundbar 300. The guide distinguishes connection methods by equipment.
  3. If you are considering a Bose Bass Module Connection Cable, check the instructions for your exact equipment first. Bose describes hardwiring as available for “select” soundbars, not all soundbars.

For placement, Bose advises putting the Bass Module 500 on the floor against the same wall as the television and soundbar, with a nearby power outlet. Bose says moving it closer to walls or corners increases bass, while moving it farther away reduces bass.

For the Bass Module 700 or Acoustimass 300

Use the instructions for the exact module and Soundbar 300 rather than applying the Bass Module 500 connection steps by analogy. The Soundbar 300 guide establishes these models as compatible accessories, but the cited setup instructions here describe the Bass Module 500 specifically.
