The four apps named in a September 22, 2026 TechPP article are Wanderlog, Stippl, Polarsteps, and TripWaffle—but their reported AI features and import workflows differ, and the comparisons below reflect that article rather than independent testing.
What to compare before choosing
Email import is only one part of the decision. Check how an app plans days, handles maps and routes, supports collaboration, documents a trip, and works offline. Also distinguish an AI itinerary builder from a service that primarily organizes confirmations: those are different jobs, even when both put bookings in one place.

Wanderlog: booking organization with maps and shared planning
TechPP reports that Wanderlog lets users forward flight and hotel confirmations or link Gmail for automatic scanning. Bookings can appear in an itinerary, stops can be pinned to a map, and the service offers route optimization and collaborative editing. The article says offline access and automatic Gmail scanning require Pro. This may suit travelers who want an itinerary and map in the same planning workspace, especially when several people are organizing a trip together.

Stippl: AI day plans and a broader booking mix
According to TechPP, Stippl can generate day-by-day plans and activity suggestions, and users can forward booking emails for flights, hotels, trains, and restaurant reservations. The article also describes calendar sync, a scratch map, and post-trip photo reels or photobooks. It says AI itinerary generation and offline mode are paid-tier features. Its reported strengths span planning and documenting a trip, rather than email collection alone.
Polarsteps: journey tracking and documentation, with booking import
TechPP describes Polarsteps as a journey-tracking and trip-documentation app that has added booking-email extraction and an AI itinerary builder. Imported booking details may include addresses, and users can order a digital travel book. The article characterizes its booking import as newer and less complete than Wanderlog’s or Stippl’s. That distinction matters if reliable collection of many booking types is your first priority.

TripWaffle: confirmation details and travel alerts
TechPP describes TripWaffle as focused on turning confirmation emails into an itinerary. Its reported extracted details include dates, times, confirmation numbers, addresses, and time zones; the article also mentions flight tracking, alerts, and pre-trip checklist emails. It says TripWaffle is free, but does not generate AI itineraries from scratch. That makes the reported product emphasis different from an AI-first planner: organizing and tracking confirmed travel rather than inventing a day plan.
How to choose based on your trip
- Choose for mapping and collaboration: Wanderlog is the option TechPP associates with map pins, route optimization, and shared editing.
- Choose for generated daily plans: Stippl is reported to offer AI day-by-day itinerary generation and activity suggestions; the article says these require a paid tier.
- Choose for documenting the journey: Polarsteps is described as combining tracking and travel-book creation with newer booking-email extraction.
- Choose for confirmation-focused organization: TripWaffle is reported to extract booking details and provide travel alerts, but not to create an itinerary from scratch with AI.
These are distinctions in the cited article, not a universal ranking. Before handing an app access to an inbox or relying on its booking import, check its current provider support, permissions, privacy terms, and pricing with the app maker. The available reporting does not establish current mailbox compatibility or import success rates for these four services.

Email sync is convenient, but it is not guaranteed to catch every booking
Inbox-based itinerary services may use forwarded messages or an authorized connection to a mailbox. A documented example is TripIt: its support pages describe forwarding confirmations or enabling Inbox Sync with Gmail, Google Workspace, Outlook, Microsoft 365, Hotmail, and Yahoo. TripIt says an import can take up to 24 hours; its first scan checks travel-related emails received in the previous seven days, and confirmations need to be in the main inbox rather than a folder or label. Advanced Protection or employer restrictions on Microsoft 365 can interfere with connection. These are TripIt’s stated conditions and should not be assumed to apply identically to the four apps above.
TripIt also says its confirmation-email support covers thousands of suppliers in English, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish. Its supported-site list includes examples across airlines, hotels, rental cars, trains, cruises, booking sites, restaurants, and activities. Broad supplier coverage still does not guarantee that every message format will import correctly.

Consider the inbox permission, not only convenience
TripIt says Inbox Sync is optional, uses OAuth authorization, does not give it the user’s email password, and can be revoked. Its security page, modified May 6, 2024, states: “TripIt never asks for or stores your password.” This describes TripIt’s own stated practice, not an independent security audit and not a claim about the other apps. Review the specific app’s permission screen and privacy documentation before connecting an account.

Another option for organizing confirmations: KAYAK Trips
KAYAK says its free KAYAK Trips service accepts confirmations forwarded to trips@kayak.com or imported through Gmail sync. It also describes manual trip additions, sharing, saved-search price tracking, and flight and gate alerts. KAYAK presents Trips as an itinerary organizer; the cited information does not establish it as an AI planner, so it is an alternative if the goal is organizing travel details rather than generating an itinerary with AI.

Practical checks before importing a real trip
- Confirm the app’s current import method. Find out whether it accepts forwarded confirmations, requires a connected inbox, or supports both.
- Check supplier and mailbox coverage. A planner may support a provider generally while still missing a particular confirmation format.
- Test with a low-risk booking first. Confirm that dates, times, locations, and booking references were extracted correctly before relying on the itinerary.
- Keep the original confirmations. An itinerary is a convenient overview, not a substitute for the booking provider’s message or account.
- Review ongoing access. If you connected a mailbox for a one-time trip, check how to revoke access after you finish using the service.
