Choose the model that performs best on your app’s real tasks while meeting its latency, cost, privacy, and deployment requirements. There is no established apples-to-apples comparison that makes Muse, Llama, or another model a universal winner, so test the candidates on the same representative workload before committing.
First, identify which “Muse” you mean
Muse is not one interchangeable model. Meta’s Muse Spark models, Meta’s open-weight Muse Glimmer, and Microsoft’s Muse for gameplay are different products with different purposes and deployment routes.
| Model | What the source describes | Deployment detail |
|---|---|---|
| Meta Muse Spark 1.1 | A multimodal reasoning model aimed at agentic tasks. Meta describes tool use, computer use, coding, multimodal tasks, and a one-million-token context window. | Meta said developers could begin using it through the Meta Model API in public preview on July 9, 2026. |
| Meta Muse Glimmer | A 30-billion-parameter open-weight model aimed at local agent workflows. | Meta announced the weights under Apache 2.0 on August 10, 2026. |
| Microsoft Muse (WHAM) | A gameplay world model that can generate game visuals, controller actions, or both. | Microsoft described sequences consistent for up to two minutes in its February 19, 2025 announcement. |
Meta’s July 2026 post describes Spark API access as public preview, following its April 2026 announcement of private preview access for select users. Preview access can change, so check the current Meta Model API announcement before designing around availability. Microsoft’s Muse is for gameplay ideation, not the Meta API or Glimmer; see Microsoft Research’s description.

Start with the job your app needs the model to do, not the model’s headline benchmark. Write down representative inputs and the exact output your software needs, then include the conditions that can make the task difficult.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Inputs and modalities: Include realistic text, images, audio, or video only if your app needs them.
- Output contract: Specify whether the response must be natural language, structured data, a tool call, or a sequence of actions.
- Context: Include the amount of conversation, source material, or other input the model must handle at once.
- Failure cost: Record what happens when the model is wrong, inconsistent, slow, or unable to complete a task.
Use this task set to shortlist candidates. For example, an app that must call tools reliably needs tests for correct tool selection and arguments, not just fluent answers. A long context window matters only if the app’s actual tasks require that much input.
How do you compare AI models for your use case?
Run each remaining candidate against the same representative tasks, using the same success criteria. A useful comparison includes the following dimensions:

- Cost at expected usage: Estimate total API or infrastructure cost for your expected workload. The sources here establish no current prices or quotas, so verify current commercial terms directly.
- Capabilities: Confirm the required modalities, tool calling, structured output, and context capacity in the candidate’s current offering.
- Operational effort: Account for serving, monitoring, security, updates, and incident response, not only the initial integration.
Meta reports that Muse Spark scored 58% on Humanity’s Last Exam and 38% on FrontierScience Research in Contemplating mode, and says it worked with over 1,000 physicians to curate health-related training data. These are Meta-reported details in its April 8, 2026 announcement, not independent head-to-head results or evidence that the model is clinically validated or appropriate for medical decisions. Treat vendor evaluations as context, then assess the model on your own app’s tasks.

Should you use an API or run an open model locally?
A hosted API and a self-managed open-weight model shift different work and risks to your team. Choose based on the constraints your app must satisfy, not on the assumption that either route is automatically cheaper or simpler.

Hosted API
An API can reduce the work of serving model weights and maintaining inference infrastructure. In return, your app depends on the provider’s current access, terms, service, and data-handling conditions. Muse Spark 1.1 was described as public preview in July 2026; confirm availability and current terms before relying on it.
Open weights and local inference
Open weights can provide a local or self-managed path, but the developer takes on infrastructure and ongoing operations. Meta says Muse Glimmer’s weights use Apache 2.0; that license statement applies to Glimmer, not to other Muse products or models. Review the exact model license and any applicable terms for each candidate.

For its described Muse Glimmer configuration, Meta says the full-precision 30-billion-parameter model would require over 55 GB of memory. Meta says the quantized language model is under 20 GB, with the model plus working memory, image-perception encoder, and speculative-decoding drafter fitting within a 24 GB or 32 GB device-memory envelope. These are Meta’s figures for that configuration, not a general hardware requirement for AI apps or other models. See the Muse Glimmer announcement and verify the live runtime documentation for the version you intend to deploy.
What should you verify before choosing?
Check the terms and operational conditions that can change the suitability of a model even when it passes your task tests:

- Exact model license, API terms, and permitted uses.
- Privacy, data retention, and data-handling terms for the selected deployment route.
- Geographic availability and any jurisdictional or compliance obligations for your app.
- Current access status, quotas, and service conditions for a hosted API.
- Runtime compatibility, memory needs, monitoring, security, and update responsibilities for a self-managed deployment.
Do not infer these conditions from a model’s name, a preview announcement, or an open-weights license alone. Confirm the applicable terms for the exact model and deployment you plan to use.
Make the decision from your app’s results
Keep the model that meets your app’s task requirements and operational constraints at an acceptable total cost. If two candidates remain close, prioritize the difference that matters most to your product—such as reliability, latency, privacy, or how much infrastructure your team can maintain. Re-run the comparison when the model, API terms, workload, or deployment configuration changes.
