Windscribe is the clearest match if you specifically need an IP advertised as being in Los Angeles: its official pages list Los Angeles as a selectable endpoint. The reviewed provider information does not confirm that LA access is included in Windscribe’s free locations, however. Proton VPN and PrivadoVPN offer free plans worth considering for general VPN use, but the available evidence does not establish either as a free Los Angeles-IP option.
A VPN routes your internet traffic through a provider’s server, so websites see the server’s public IP rather than your usual one. A U.S. server is not necessarily an LA server: if a service requires a city-level location, confirm Los Angeles appears in the plan’s location list before subscribing.
Which VPNs have evidence for Los Angeles access?
The provider information reviewed supports three candidates, but not five equivalent recommendations. Only Windscribe’s official pages directly advertise a Los Angeles endpoint. Proton VPN and PrivadoVPN are relevant free-plan comparisons, not confirmed ways to obtain an LA IP.

| Windscribe | Advertises a Los Angeles endpoint and lists LA among U.S. city choices. Server locations | Readers who need a specifically advertised LA endpoint and are willing to check the plan’s location availability. |
| Proton VPN | Supports U.S. IP access and says free browsing is unlimited. U.S. servers | Its official FAQ says streaming access to geoblocked content is guaranteed only on paid plans; the reviewed pages do not establish free city selection for Los Angeles. Free versus paid | General U.S. VPN use where unlimited free browsing matters more than a confirmed LA endpoint. |
| PrivadoVPN | Advertises a free plan and a selection of free server locations. Free plan; Server FAQ | The free plan advertises 10 GB per month; access to a specific country or server may require a paid plan. LA availability is not established. | Trying a limited-data free VPN when a Los Angeles city endpoint is not a requirement. |
How do you get an LA IP address?
- Check the provider’s location list. Look for Los Angeles specifically, not just “United States.” Windscribe’s official pages advertise an LA endpoint, but the free-location list does not confirm that free accounts can select it.
- Choose a plan that includes the location. Review the current plan details and in-app server list before paying. Provider locations and pricing can change.
- Connect to Los Angeles in the VPN app. Select the city endpoint, connect, and then check your public IP using a reputable IP lookup service. A location label is a provider claim; a lookup can help confirm what city databases associate with the IP, but those databases can disagree.
- Test the service you need. A website or streaming platform can still reject a VPN address, require a separate account or location check, or enforce its own terms. An LA IP does not guarantee access.
Is a free VPN enough for a Los Angeles IP?
Not necessarily. Free plans may limit which countries or individual servers you can select. Windscribe says free server access covers 10 countries, including the U.S., but its reviewed location list does not establish that Los Angeles is among the free choices. Proton VPN’s free plan offers unlimited browsing, but the reviewed material does not confirm free LA city selection. PrivadoVPN advertises 10 GB per month for free accounts and says specific-country or server access may require a paid plan; it does not establish a free LA endpoint.

For general U.S. browsing, those free plans may still be useful on their stated terms. If you require Los Angeles specifically, verify the exact city is selectable on your account before relying on it.
What a Los Angeles VPN endpoint can—and cannot—do
When connected, a VPN routes traffic through its selected endpoint and changes the public IP websites see. It does not move you physically to Los Angeles, guarantee that an IP database will classify the address as LA, or compel a third-party site to accept the connection.

Streaming access is particularly service-dependent. Proton VPN says it guarantees access to geoblocked streaming content only on paid plans, and directs users to follow streaming services’ terms. A local government, utility, or other portal may also apply account, identity, or security checks regardless of the apparent IP location.

What to check before choosing
- Exact city availability: confirm Los Angeles, rather than only the United States, is selectable on the plan you intend to use.
- Free-plan limits: check location selection, data allowance, and whether the desired server requires a paid account.
- Compatibility: verify the intended site or app works with the provider; an advertised endpoint is not an access guarantee.
- Privacy claims: treat provider statements about logging, encryption, or privacy as provider claims unless you verify the scope and date of an independent audit. No audit reports were reviewed here.
- Price and performance: check current pricing directly with the provider. No comparable independent LA speed or reliability tests support naming a fastest service.
Why this is not a five-provider ranking
The available official evidence supports one direct LA endpoint recommendation and two useful free-plan comparisons, but it does not substantiate five comparable VPNs with Los Angeles access. Adding more names without provider-specific evidence would risk implying city availability that has not been established.
