The streaming service with the movies you actually want is the one that matches your watchlist—not necessarily the one with the biggest reputation or catalog. Make a shortlist, check where each film is available, separate subscription access from rentals and purchases, and verify must-watch titles on the provider’s own site before signing up. Catalogs vary by country and change over time, so there is no universal best service.

Which streaming service has the movies I actually want to watch?

There is no single answer for every viewer. A service is a good fit when its current catalog includes enough of your priority films, in the access type and price you want, to justify the subscription. Start with specific titles rather than choosing based on a service’s brand or a headline about library size.

How to compare services against your movie watchlist

  1. Write down films you genuinely plan to watch. Include a few favorites you rewatch and upcoming watches, along with examples from the genres, eras, countries, directors, or studios you care about. A short, meaningful list is more useful than trying to compare every movie in every catalog.
  2. Search a multi-service guide. For US availability, JustWatch’s US movie guide lets you filter by service and price, including a free option, and covers services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Hulu, Max, Apple TV+, Peacock, Crunchyroll, fuboTV, and Paramount+. Treat its listings as a discovery starting point, not a guarantee.
  3. Count only the offers that suit you. Check whether each shortlist title is included with a subscription, available free with ads, or offered only as a rental or purchase. A film appearing in search results does not necessarily mean you can stream it as part of the service’s subscription.
  4. Compare taste and usability, not just the number of matches. JustWatch provides filters for release year, genre, price, rating, production country, runtime, and age rating. Use the ones that reflect what you watch, and consider whether a service or guide makes it easy for you to find the kinds of movies you like.
  5. Confirm your decisive titles with the provider. Before subscribing—or before planning a movie night—check the service’s own catalog or in-app search for films you consider essential. Hulu’s Help Center, for example, points users to its streaming library, search guidance, and information about titles coming and going: Hulu Help Center: browsing and searching content.
  6. Recheck when your viewing changes. A service that fits a month of new releases may not be the best fit for another month focused on a particular genre or filmmaker. If you rotate subscriptions, review the current catalog and the provider’s plan and cancellation terms directly before making a change.

What to weigh when choosing a service

Comparison factor What to check
Watchlist match How many of your priority movies are available in the way you want to watch them?
Offer type Is a title included in a subscription, free with ads, or available only to rent or buy?
Price What is the current price in your country for the plan you would actually use? Confirm it with the provider.
Catalog fit Does the service regularly carry movies from your preferred genres, eras, production countries, directors, or studios?
Discovery Can you find relevant titles easily using the provider’s tools or a guide’s filters?

Do not treat catalog size alone as proof that a service is right for you. JustWatch partner documentation describes its own tracking coverage—up to 250,000 movies, 60,000 TV shows, more than 3,900 local provider catalogs, and more than 500 unique providers across over 100 countries. Those figures describe JustWatch’s data product, not comparative service quality or the number of films included in any one subscription. The documentation says, “Fresh data: daily updates for all available streaming services” (JustWatch partner documentation, accessed October 4, 2026). Daily updates do not guarantee that every individual listing is complete or correct.

Why movie availability can be hard to pin down

Catalogs change, and the same movie may have different availability in different markets. JustWatch’s guide cited here is for the US; it should not be used to assume the same catalog elsewhere. Hulu’s catalog resources also direct viewers to check what is coming and going. Reelgood for Business describes title-availability tracking and historical movement, illustrating that listings can shift over time: Reelgood for Business.

A quick decision rule

  • Choose the service that includes the most movies on your priority list under the access type you want.
  • If two services are close, compare their fit for your favorite genres and filmmakers, the current local price, and how easily you can discover something to watch.
  • If neither fits well, avoid subscribing on reputation alone: check other services or reconsider after the catalogs change.
