Start by matching a robot vacuum to your floors, rug edges, thresholds, room layout and cleaning routine—not its headline suction figure. On tile, marble and other hard floors, scheduled vacuuming can help with everyday dust and crumbs. Rugs, loose fringe and raised sills need model-specific checks, while a basic robot mop is best treated as a damp wipe for light, fresh dirt rather than a replacement for scrubbing.
Map your home before comparing models
Walk through the rooms the robot would clean and note what is on the floor in each one. Measure the highest threshold and the thickest rug edge, and look closely at transitions where a rug, mat or loose fringe could catch. Haier India identifies mixed flooring and raised thresholds as considerations in Indian homes, but the right clearance depends on the exact robot and obstacle; do not assume a model will cross a transition based on appearance alone. Haier India’s buyer guide discusses thresholds and mixed surfaces.
- Record hard-floor types and which rooms have rugs or mats.
- Measure the tallest threshold and thickest rug edge; note fringe or curled corners.
- Consider how furniture, cables and other movable objects affect the robot’s path.
- If the home has more than one storey, check whether the model supports the maps and room controls you need on each floor.
Choose the cleaning job you actually need
Routine vacuuming on hard floors
For everyday dust and crumbs on tile, marble and similar hard surfaces, scheduled vacuuming may reduce the need to sweep as often. Check bin capacity, how often it needs emptying, filter access and whether hair can be cleared from the brush without a difficult teardown.
Light mopping versus dried messes
Many robot mop functions use a damp cloth or pad to wipe the floor. NDTV Shopping characterizes this as light maintenance, not deep cleaning: dried curry droplets and muddy footprints may still need manual attention. If dried stains or scrubbing are the main problem, a basic mop pad is not a substitute. Read NDTV Shopping’s guide to robot vacuum and mop functions for that distinction.

Before using a combo robot on rugs, check the exact model’s instructions for wet mopping and rug handling. Confirm whether you can configure vacuuming and mopping separately, and whether the robot can avoid a rug while a wet pad is fitted.
Match navigation to the floor plan
Systematic mapping, room selection and no-go zones can be useful when a home has several rooms or obstacles that need repeatable coverage. A simpler navigation system may be adequate for a more open layout. Compare the available controls with the actual floor plan rather than paying for features you will not use.

Clear movable objects before a run, particularly after setting up a map. NDTV Shopping notes that moving objects after mapping can disrupt the map. Check the manual for how the model stores maps, handles no-go zones and resumes after charging; these capabilities vary by model. Haier India and NDTV Shopping both discuss mapping and home obstacles in their buyer guidance.

| What to compare | Questions to check |
|---|---|
| Surface fit | Which hard floors and rug types are supported? How does the robot handle fringe and loose edges? Can vacuuming and mopping be configured separately? |
| Obstacle fit | How does the manufacturer state its clearance or climbing limit, and does that suit your measured threshold and rug transitions? |
| Coverage | Does its mapping, room selection and no-go-zone control match your layout? Is multi-floor map support needed? |
| Cleaning routine | How often will you empty the bin? How accessible are the filter and brush? What kind of mop pad does it use, and how is the pad maintained? |
| Ownership | Can you find compatible filters, brushes, pads and batteries locally? Check model-specific service and warranty terms. |
| Total value | Compare the current local price and dock functions with the tasks you want automated. A self-emptying or automatic mop-washing dock may not be worth paying for if you are comfortable doing those jobs yourself. |
Read specifications as model claims, not guarantees
Specifications can narrow a shortlist, but they do not prove how a robot will perform in every home. For example, Eureka Forbes’ official India listing for the Smartclean with Home Mapping Pro describes 5000 Pa advertised suction, LiDAR 3.0 mapping, HEPA filtration and a stated ability to climb carpet or floor mats up to 15 mm. Those are manufacturer-stated figures and features, not independent comparative test results for Indian floors or rugs. Check the official product listing and verify the exact model’s current specifications and availability.

Do not treat suction figures as a universal ranking, or infer a model’s performance from general claims about dust in Indian cities. The sources available here do not establish a comparable India-wide performance or dust statistic. Compare the specific rug, threshold and cleaning requirements of your home instead.

Robot vacuums still need regular care. Haier India advises emptying the dustbin, cleaning or replacing filters, removing hair from brushes and wiping sensors. TOQ also calls out filters, brushes, mop pads and batteries as replacement parts whose cost and local availability should be checked. Consult the TOQ robot vacuum buying guide and look for parts compatible with the exact model number.
Before checkout, inspect the current India warranty and service terms for the specific listing. Prices, stock and offers can change; the Eureka Forbes product page’s displayed price and warranty should be checked again at purchase. Do not assume that variants in the same product family share specifications or included features: Eureka Forbes’ category page shows Smartclean models with different advertised suction, mopping and dust-disposal arrangements. Compare the exact model configurations.
