The right fitness tracker is the one that works with your phone, feels comfortable enough to wear overnight, records the workouts you care about, and can last between charges with those features turned on. Start by choosing between a slim band and a full smartwatch; then check compatibility, sleep and workout functions, GPS, battery estimates, and charging routine. There is no universal winner: the Fitbit Charge 6, Garmin vívosmart 5, and Samsung Galaxy Fit3 are band-style examples, while Apple Watch Series 12 offers broader smartwatch functions with a shorter stated battery estimate.

Start with your phone and the type of wearable you want

Before comparing sensors, confirm that the exact tracker works with your phone, its operating-system version, the required app, and the features offered in your region. Compatibility and feature availability can differ by model and market, so check the manufacturer’s current page rather than relying on a general brand-level claim.

Then decide whether you want a low-profile band or a fuller smartwatch. A band is generally the simpler form factor for activity and sleep tracking; a smartwatch typically offers more wrist-based apps, notifications, and other interactions. Those trade-offs are about what you need from the device, not proof that one shape is inherently more comfortable. Try the fit if possible, and consider the display, weight, strap material, and return policy: comfort overnight is personal.

Check whether sleep tracking fits your routine

Look for the sleep information you will actually use, such as a nightly summary or estimated sleep stages, and consider whether the tracker can stay on your wrist through the night. A sleep score or stage estimate is a consumer wellness feature, not a diagnostic sleep study. The official product information cited here does not establish a cross-brand accuracy ranking.

Sleep tracking also depends on having enough battery at bedtime and following the device’s setup requirements. For Apple Watch, Apple says sleep tracking depends on sleep setup, including a sleep schedule or Sleep Focus, and advises charging to at least 30% before bed. Its support page states, “If your Apple Watch battery dies, it won’t track your sleep data.” See Apple’s sleep-tracking setup and battery guidance.

Match workout features to the activities you do

Make a short list of your regular workouts, then check that the model supports them and presents the data you want. If you need route maps or distance without carrying a phone, verify the specific model’s GPS arrangement; some trackers may depend on a nearby phone. Also check whether heart-rate features, activity profiles, or connections to compatible gym equipment matter to you.

  • Fitbit Charge 6: Google describes sleep tracking, sleep stages, workout features, and a heart-rate connection to compatible exercise equipment. Google’s launch announcement calls its heart rate the company’s “most accurate” on a fitness tracker; that is Fitbit’s own claim, not an independent comparison. See the Fitbit Charge 6 announcement and Google Store specifications.
  • Garmin vívosmart 5: Garmin’s Singapore product page lists sleep-stage tracking, heart rate, stress, Pulse Ox, respiration, and profiles including walking, running, yoga, Pilates, cardio, and strength training. It lists iPhone and Android compatibility. See Garmin’s vívosmart 5 product page.
  • Samsung Galaxy Fit3: Samsung’s UK page describes sleep, workout, and health tracking through Samsung Health. Check the current regional product details for the particular phone and features you plan to use. See the Samsung UK Galaxy Fit3 page.
  • Apple Watch Series 12: Apple describes a readiness score drawing on recent activity, vitals, and sleep score. Apple’s calibration guidance explains that calibration can improve some activity and workout calculations; certain older models may use iPhone GPS when available. See Apple’s Series 12 announcement and Apple’s calibration support page.

Compare battery life using the features you will actually enable

Published runtimes are manufacturer estimates, not a controlled comparison between brands. Settings such as Always On Display, overnight sensors, GPS, cellular use, notifications, and workout frequency can change how often you charge. Read the test conditions beside the number rather than treating a maximum as a guarantee.

Example Manufacturer-stated battery information What the qualification means
Garmin vívosmart 5 Up to 7 days Garmin excludes Pulse Ox sleep tracking from this estimate on its Singapore product page.
Samsung Galaxy Fit3 Up to 3.5 days with Always On Display enabled; up to 13 days with it disabled Samsung’s UK estimates differ substantially with the display setting.
Apple Watch Series 12 Up to 24 hours in Apple’s all-day test, including a 60-minute workout and six hours of sleep tracking Apple says testing used pre-production devices and software in July–August 2026; actual results vary. See Apple’s UK battery information.
Apple Watch Ultra 4 Up to 50 hours in Apple’s multi-day test, including two 60-minute workouts and 12 hours of sleep tracking Apple’s India battery page describes a different test protocol; do not compare this figure directly with another model’s headline estimate. See Apple’s India battery information.

For a sleep-and-workout routine, ask whether the stated runtime leaves enough margin for overnight tracking after a workout day. Also factor in charging opportunities: a device that needs frequent top-ups may be inconvenient if you want uninterrupted sleep records. Apple’s separate outdoor-workout figure is up to 10 hours for Series 12; it is a manufacturer estimate, not a guarantee for every setting or workout.

Check how charging works in your home

Confirm the included or compatible charger and how long a typical top-up takes, especially if you plan to charge between waking and bedtime. Samsung’s US support page says Galaxy Fit3 is not compatible with wireless charging pads or PowerShare and can reach 65% charge in 30 minutes. That is Samsung’s support figure, and charging accessories and regional product configurations should be checked for your model. See Samsung’s Galaxy Fit3 charging support.

Use a shortlist based on your priorities

  • Choose a band-style tracker if a lower-profile device and focused activity tracking suit you better than a broad app and notification experience. Compare the Charge 6, vívosmart 5, and Galaxy Fit3 against your phone, preferred workout features, and charging habits.
  • Consider a fuller smartwatch if richer wrist-based functions matter enough to accept a different charging routine. Apple’s Series 12 battery estimate includes sleep tracking in its stated test, but it is a shorter headline runtime than the band examples above; the protocols are not directly comparable.
  • Prioritize time between charges by comparing estimates with display and sensor settings you expect to use. Garmin’s vívosmart 5 estimate excludes Pulse Ox sleep tracking, while Samsung’s Galaxy Fit3 estimate changes with Always On Display.
  • Need longer smartwatch runtime? Apple’s Ultra 4 provides a longer-runtime smartwatch example in Apple’s stated multi-day test, but its 50-hour result uses a different protocol from the Series 12 figure and does not establish a direct brand comparison.

Before buying, confirm current price, subscription terms, exact phone compatibility, regional feature availability, and return conditions. Those details can change, and the manufacturer pages cited here do not establish a consistent current price or subscription comparison across these products.
