Choose an AI assistant by first defining the agency work it will support, the information it will handle, and the integrations it needs. Then verify that the exact cloud service offering is currently FedRAMP Certified, review its security package and shared responsibilities, configure it for the agency environment, and complete the agency’s own authorization before use. FedRAMP certification provides reusable security evidence; it does not authorize every agency to use the service for every purpose or type of data.
Start by deciding whether your proposed use is in FedRAMP scope
The product name alone does not determine whether a deployment is in scope. FedRAMP’s 2026 scope guidance says the agency use case matters: the same service may be outside scope in one deployment and within scope in another, depending on the information handled and how the service operates.
For example, FedRAMP identifies an AI coding assistant used only with public code as an out-of-scope example, and internal-data search over non-public agency repositories as an in-scope example. Treat these as illustrations, not blanket rules for every deployment. The agency must assess its own use.

Map the proposed use and data flows
- Identify the tasks the assistant will perform, its users, and whether it will generate, summarize, search, or transform agency information.
- Classify the information it may receive or return, including whether it includes sensitive federal information or non-public agency material.
- Map where prompts, uploaded files, outputs, logs, and connected-system data go, and identify the services or repositories the assistant can access.
- Determine whether the deployment needs an agency-specific tenant, centralized administration, enterprise security integrations, or access by multiple agencies or third parties.
Use that map to determine whether the intended use is within FedRAMP scope and what protections the agency requires. Do not assume that a vendor’s product label settles either question.

Which AI assistants does FedRAMP list as certified?
FedRAMP reports that its AI prioritization initiative began in August 2025 and concluded in April 2026. Its page lists the following services as receiving FedRAMP Certification in early 2026:
| Service listed by FedRAMP | What the listing establishes | What to verify for your procurement |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT Enterprise and API Platform | FedRAMP lists these offerings as receiving certification in early 2026. | Confirm the exact offering, current certification status, certification type and class, service boundary, and access to the relevant package. |
| Gemini for Government | FedRAMP lists this offering as receiving certification in early 2026. | Confirm the exact offering, current certification status, certification type and class, service boundary, and access to the relevant package. |
| Perplexity Enterprise Pro for Government | FedRAMP lists this offering as receiving certification in early 2026. | Confirm the exact offering, current certification status, certification type and class, service boundary, and access to the relevant package. |
This is a discovery starting point, not a product ranking or proof that a particular agency can procure or use an offering for its intended purpose. Certification details and service scope can change; check the current official FedRAMP record and package for the precise offering under consideration.
How to evaluate and select a candidate
Use the same questions for every candidate, then weigh the answers against the mission, information sensitivity, integrations, and agency risk tolerance. There is no universal weighting that makes one service the right choice for every agency.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors1. Confirm the exact service boundary and evidence
Make sure the certified offering is the one the agency would actually deploy. Review its certification type and class, the service boundary, package contents, secure configuration guidance, inherited controls, provider responsibilities, and ongoing certification data. Establish who in the agency can access the package and which reports or updates will be available during operation.
2. Examine data handling and separation
Trace how agency data is processed and protected in the proposed configuration. Assess data separation and protection measures against the sensitivity of the information and the agency’s requirements. Confirm what the service can access through uploads, connected repositories, or other integrations, and what information is available to administrators and users.
3. Compare identity, administration, logging, and monitoring
Assess the controls available to manage users and administrators, integrate identity services, record relevant activity, and monitor the deployment. Determine which controls the provider operates and which the agency must configure or operate. A feature’s existence is not enough: verify that it can be enabled and managed in the specific offering and agency environment.

- Create a mix using audio, music and voice tracks and recordings.
- Customize your tracks with amazing effects and helpful editing tools.
- Use tools like the Beat Maker and Midi Creator.
- Work efficiently by using Bookmarks and tools like Effect Chain, which allow you to apply multiple effects at a time
- Use one of the many other NCH multimedia applications that are integrated with MixPad.
4. Check mission fit and integration requirements
Compare the assistant’s needed capabilities with the agency’s defined tasks and data flows. Review required integrations with enterprise security services and agency repositories, along with the protections and responsibilities those connections introduce. Reject a feature comparison that ignores whether the service can be securely operated for the intended use.

5. Assess continuing evidence and operational responsibilities
Determine how the agency will receive and review ongoing certification data, reports, vulnerability information, and other relevant updates. Include operational responsibilities such as incident response, records management, privacy, and monitoring in the selection decision. The agency needs a workable plan for these obligations, not only a favorable initial package review.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What FedRAMP certification does—and does not—authorize
FedRAMP assessment and certification supply standardized, reusable security evidence for agency decision-making. They do not amount to an agency Authorizing Official granting an agency-wide ATO for all uses of the service.
FedRAMP’s 2026 Initial Agency Authorization guidance states: “The resulting Authorization to Operate applies to the agency information system and its use of the cloud service.” In other words, the agency’s authorization concerns its own information system, configuration, and use. FedRAMP RFC-0020 likewise explains that FedRAMP authorization is not an agency Authorizing Official’s decision to grant the service an ATO. The FedRAMP Authorization Act guidance says the package assessment is presumed adequate for agency use, while preserving agencies’ legal responsibilities and authority to require additional security requirements when there is a demonstrable need.
Complete the agency authorization and prepare for ongoing oversight
After choosing a candidate, the agency still needs to document and authorize its own use before deployment. The agency’s authorization materials should reflect how the service will be used, the agency’s configuration and integrations, and the division of responsibilities between the provider and agency.

- Securely configure the service and its integrations for the approved use and information types.
- Complete the agency authorization decision before use.
- Monitor relevant provider certification data, reports, vulnerabilities, and reviews over time.
Certification is a reusable foundation for that decision, not a replacement for it or for continuous oversight.
