Rockstar currently lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a launch date of November 19, 2026. Rockstar labels the game “Plays Best On” PlayStation 5, but neither Rockstar nor the cited platform listings provide a head-to-head performance test. If you already own one of these console families, that ecosystem is a practical starting point; if you are buying new, compare the specific console model, local price, and edition you want.
Which consoles are currently listed for GTA 6?
Rockstar’s official GTA VI page lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and shows November 19, 2026 as the release date. Xbox’s official game listing gives the same date for Xbox Series X|S. These are the platforms named by the official pages checked; they do not list PS4, Xbox One, or PC.
Does GTA 6 have an advantage on PS5?
Rockstar’s page places the label “Plays Best On” above “PlayStation 5.” PlayStation’s June 24, 2026 PlayStation Blog post says the game will use PS5 immersive features. That is official PS5 positioning, not an independently measured comparison: the cited sources do not publish GTA VI frame rates, resolution, image-quality results, or loading-time comparisons for PS5 versus Xbox Series X|S.
Consider the PS5 statement as one factor if you are choosing between platforms, rather than proof of a particular graphics or performance outcome. The official material does not establish a technical winner across PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.

How should you choose between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S?
If you already own one console family
Since official listings include the game on both console families, staying with a console you already own may be the simplest choice. That is practical buying guidance, not a claim that GTA VI performs better on your existing platform.
If you are buying a console specifically for GTA 6
Compare the current local prices and bundles for the exact models available to you. The official information cited here does not establish which console costs less overall or which offers better GTA VI performance. Check retailer listings for regional prices and bundle contents before buying.

If you are weighing PS5 against Xbox Series X or Series S
Rockstar’s PS5 “Plays Best On” label may matter to you, but it does not supply a direct model-by-model benchmark. The cited official pages do not establish a frame-rate, resolution, or loading-time advantage for any of these models. Choose based on the console ecosystem you prefer, the specific model’s current price, and the official feature information rather than assumed technical results.
What does GTA 6 cost, and which edition should you buy?
Take-Two Interactive’s June 2026 pre-order announcement lists a U.S. launch price of $79.99 for GTA VI. That is the stated U.S. game price, not a universal price for every region or a console price; check local listings for your market.
