Choose a Barcelona defender by checking expected minutes and starting likelihood first. Then weigh fantasy output, attacking contribution, availability, opponent and price using the scoring rules of your own game. A player’s past points or current-season appearances can inform the decision, but neither guarantees future starts.
Start with the 2026/27 Barcelona defender pool
FC Barcelona’s first-team squad and shirt-number announcement on 2 September 2026 named eight defenders: João Cancelo, Alejandro Balde, Pau Cubarsí, Xavi Espart, Andreas Christensen, Gerard Martín, Jules Koundé and Eric García. Treat that list as the squad baseline, not confirmation that every player is registered, fit or likely to start a particular match. FC Barcelona’s squad announcement is the club’s reference point.
How to compare the options
1. Estimate minutes before chasing points
Look at recent appearances, minutes and team news before choosing a name. At the time LALIGA statistics were retrieved on 4 October 2026, Xavi Espart had played 440 minutes across five appearances. LALIGA’s scorer table showed six appearances each for Cancelo and Eric García, and five for Cubarsí. Total points combine performance with opportunity: a player who appears more often has more chances to accumulate points. Points per appearance can help compare players with unequal participation, but a small sample can make an average look stronger than it is.

In Cadena SER’s retrospective of the 2025/26 LALIGA Fantasy season, Eric García scored 201 points and Pau Cubarsí scored 187. The same retrospective listed Cancelo at 6.16 points per appearance and Eric García at 5.43; it also noted that Cancelo played only half the season with Barcelona. 3. Match attacking upside to your game’s scoring
Goals and assists can make an attacking full-back attractive, but their value depends on your platform’s rules. Clean sheets, defensive actions, cards and minutes may also count differently from game to game. The current 2026/27 scoring formula was not established in the available official sources, so check the rules inside your fantasy game rather than assuming a point value.

4. Factor in risk, opponent and price
Before locking in a pick, check fitness, suspension status, expected start, opponent and current price. Compare the player with alternatives you can afford, and consider clean-sheet prospects only if your game rewards them. Prices, current injury or rotation status, and a fixture forecast are live details to verify—not fixed attributes of any player.

A practical shortlist method
- Confirm the player is in the pool. Use the club’s current squad information and check registration in your fantasy game.
- Check the latest team news and playing time. Review recent appearances, minutes, injuries, suspensions and likely lineup before the deadline.
- Compare output on a like-for-like basis. Use total points for accumulated returns and per-appearance averages as context, noting the size and period of each sample.
- Apply your platform’s scoring and budget. Consider attacking and defensive contributions only where the game awards them; compare current prices with the alternatives available to you.
- Recheck before submitting. Roles and availability can change during the season, so refresh lineup news and prices for each deadline.
Which fantasy platform are these numbers for?
The historical points cited above are from LALIGA Fantasy’s 2025/26 season retrospective. LALIGA announced availability for the 2026/27 season on 23 July 2026; its official product information describes public and private leagues, bidding for players and lineup selection, with an app for iOS and Android. That context does not mean other fantasy games use the same scoring rules. Check LALIGA Fantasy’s official product page for the platform itself and use the scoring guide in whichever game you play.
