Check your TV’s setup or settings for Google Cast, then try casting from an app while your TV and phone, tablet, or computer are on the same Wi-Fi network. If the TV appears in the app’s Cast device list and connects, it can receive Cast through that app and device. If it does not appear, check the network and TV settings before deciding the feature is absent.
What “built-in Chromecast” means
People often call the feature “built-in Chromecast,” but Google’s current support instructions call the TV capability Google Cast. A TV with built-in Cast can receive content from compatible apps without a separate Chromecast plugged into it.
A Chromecast with Google TV is a separate streaming device: it connects to an available HDMI input and needs its own power and setup. The TV’s ability to use that external device does not prove that the TV has built-in Cast.
Check your TV for Google Cast
- Find the exact TV model. Look for the model number on the TV’s label or in its About or System information screen. Use that model number to check the manufacturer’s specifications or support documentation; a brand name alone does not confirm Cast support.
- Review setup and TV menus. Look for Google Cast during initial setup, in Settings, or in the TV’s dashboard or home hub. Setup steps vary by manufacturer and model. Google gives Vizio’s setup flow and LG Home Hub as examples of places where Cast-related controls may appear, not universal menu paths. Google Cast setup instructions
- Try casting from a compatible app. Connect the TV and the sending device to the same Wi-Fi network. Open an app that supports Cast, tap its Cast button, and look for the TV’s name. The button’s location varies between apps. Select the TV and confirm the connection if it appears. Cast from Google TV help · Apps that work with Google Cast
- Check the model documentation if it remains unclear. Look up the exact model in the manufacturer’s specifications or support pages. Google’s setup guide does not list every compatible TV model, so a model-specific source is the best way to resolve uncertainty. Google Cast setup instructions
If your TV does not appear in the Cast list
One failed discovery attempt does not establish that the TV lacks built-in Cast. Check that both devices use the same Wi-Fi network, that the app supports Cast, and that the TV’s Cast feature is enabled. If relevant, check whether the sending device has permission for local-network access.

For a Google TV
Open All settings > Apps > See all apps and look for Google Cast. If you do not see it, check the options to show system apps or disabled apps. Enable Google Cast if it is disabled, then restart the TV if needed. Also check the network connection and available system updates. Google Cast help for Google TV
For another TV brand
Follow the setup flow and menu instructions for the exact model. A Cast menu without device discovery may point to a setup, network, software, or app issue; menu names and availability can vary by model, software, region, and app. Consult the TV manual or manufacturer’s support page before concluding that Cast is unavailable.

What the result tells you
- The TV appears and connects: Your current app and sending device can cast to it.
- The TV does not appear: Check Wi-Fi, app support, relevant permissions, and whether Cast is enabled before treating the result as evidence that built-in support is absent.
- You find no Cast setting or confirmation: Verify support against the exact TV model’s documentation. A manufacturer’s brand or an external Chromecast working through HDMI is not proof of built-in Cast.
If your TV does not have built-in Cast
If the exact model’s documentation and settings do not confirm built-in Cast, a separate HDMI streaming device may be an option. First check that the TV has an available HDMI input and supports the resolution you intend to use. Google lists HDCP 1.3 or higher as a minimum display requirement for its streaming devices, and HDCP 2.2 for 4K; those requirements apply to using the external device, not to identifying built-in Cast.
