Check the current FDA recall notice and the recalling company’s notice, then compare the identifiers on your actual package: brand and product name, size, UPC, lot code, date, and distribution details. A match on “blueberries” or a brand name alone does not establish that your package is affected.
How to check a package against a recall notice
- Open official recall sources. Start with the FDA Recalls, Market Withdrawals, & Safety Alerts and the FDA Enforcement Report. Then open the notice for the relevant product or company. FDA cautions that not all recalls appear on its alerts page, so check the recalling firm’s notice too.
- Read the notice’s affected-product details. Compare the brand and full product name, package size, UPC, lot or product code, and best-by, best-before, or use-by date with the printing on your bag. Check distribution information as well; it may help narrow the search but does not replace matching package identifiers.
- Follow the notice if all identifying details match. Use its instructions for disposal, return, or refund. If you cannot read the package code or no longer have the original bag, do not guess from appearance: check the firm’s notice or contact the company or named retailer for help with that specific product.
Frozen berry products named in FDA’s October 2, 2026 notice
FDA posted an October 2, 2026 announcement that Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. had expanded earlier frozen organic berry recalls. The notice identifies these products and lots:
| Brand and product | Size and UPC | Affected lot code(s) | Best-by or best-before date(s) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend | 10 oz; 7874211226 | 6 031 01; 6 041 01 | January 31, 2028; February 10, 2028 |
| Great Value Organic Blueberries | 10 oz; 7874211213 | 6 019 01; 6 040 01; 6 163 01 | January 19, 2028; February 9, 2028; June 12, 2028 |
| Trader Joe’s Organic Mixed Berry Blend | 12 oz; 00977654 | 6 051 01 | February 20, 2028 |
Match the lot code and date as well as the product name, size, and UPC. The notice says affected Great Value products were shipped to select Walmart stores in 30 states and Puerto Rico; the affected Trader Joe’s product was shipped to select stores in 26 states and the District of Columbia. These distribution details can help orient your check, but a location or brand match by itself does not confirm a package is included.
For the listed lots, the October 2 notice says not to consume the product and instructs consumers to discard it or return it to Walmart or Trader Joe’s for a full refund. Use the FDA notice for the complete details and any updates.

Earlier notices may cover other lots or products
The October 2 announcement is an expansion, not a complete record of every earlier related recall. FDA’s frozen-blueberry outbreak page records a July 2026 GreenWise recall covering all lots of specified GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries and Whole Mixed Berries in 10 oz and 48 oz sizes, as well as an earlier Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend lot. Do not assume the October notice replaces those earlier product-specific notices; check the live notices for the full scope.
What to do if your package matches
- Do not eat, serve, or give it to a pet. Follow the product-specific notice. For the October 2 listed lots, discard the product or return it to the named retailer for a full refund.
- Clean surfaces that may have contacted the food. FDA advises washing and sanitizing potentially contaminated refrigerator shelves, countertops, cutting boards, and utensils. Its published procedure specifies one tablespoon of chlorine bleach per gallon of hot water. Dry with a clean cloth or paper towel that has not been used before, then wash your hands with warm water and soap. Follow any additional instructions in the product notice. See FDA recall guidance.
- Contact a health care provider if someone may be ill. FDA advises contacting a provider to report symptoms and receive care if you think an FDA-regulated product made you sick.
How to interpret the outbreak update
FDA reports that CDC declared the E. coli O145:H28 frozen-blueberry outbreak over on September 21, 2026. FDA’s outbreak totals were 17 illnesses, six hospitalizations, and no deaths; these figures describe the outbreak, not the likelihood that any particular bag is affected. FDA says the October 2 recall expansion followed traceback information linked to frozen blueberries that were the subject of the first recall.
