To check whether an NFL player is limited in practice, find the player on the NFL’s official injury report or the team’s report and read the entries for each practice day. Then check the separate Game Status field: “Limited Participation” describes practice work, not whether the player will play.
Where to check the current report
- Open the NFL’s official latest injury report and locate the player and current week. The report lists the player, position, injury, practice status, and game status.
- Review the practice status for each reported day. The sequence can show whether participation changed during the week.
- Read the Game Status field separately. It is the report’s direct availability designation.
- Check whether a practice entry is marked “Not Injury Related.” That label distinguishes a rest-related entry from an injury-related one.
- Recheck the report as game day approaches. Filing days depend on the day of the game; the 2026–27 NFL schedule specifies filing by 4:00 p.m. New York time or as soon as possible after practice. Clubs must report a change if a player’s condition changes after the initial Game Status Report.
What “Limited Participation” means
The NFL defines it as “less than 100 percent of a player’s normal repetitions.” In other words, it measures the player’s practice participation against their normal repetitions. The NFL’s participation categories are Did Not Participate, Limited Participation, and Full Participation. NFL.com’s explanation of the injury-report revisions provides the definition.
Limited participation alone does not establish that a player is out, doubtful, or certain to play. Practice participation and Game Status are separate fields and answer different questions. Use the game designation and subsequent report updates rather than treating a limited practice entry as a prediction.

| Designation | What it means |
|---|---|
| Questionable | It is uncertain whether the player will play. |
| Doubtful | It is unlikely the player will participate. |
| Out | The player will not play. |
These are the NFL’s published definitions in its status-category explanation and injury report policy. The policy also says an injured player can appear on a practice report even when the club is certain the player will play. A player certain to play is generally not listed on the Game Status Report; if the club later deactivates that player, it must explain the decision to the league.

Distinguish injury-related limitations from rest
A practice entry labeled “Not Injury Related” identifies a rest day for an uninjured player. Do not treat that entry by itself as evidence of an injury or as an injury-based game designation. Check the player’s other practice entries and Game Status field for the fuller report picture.
Why the latest update matters
Reporting deadlines vary with the scheduled day of the game. The NFL’s 2026–27 important dates sets the filing schedule and says clubs must report changes in a player’s condition after the initial Game Status Report. Since the report can change, use the latest entry rather than relying on an earlier practice listing.

How to compare players on the same week’s report
For a useful comparison, look at each player’s current Game Status, the progression of practice participation across the week, any “Not Injury Related” label, and how recently the report was updated. Those details describe what the club has reported; they are not an individualized medical prognosis.
What the historical “Probable” figure does—and does not—say
In 2016, the NFL said approximately 95 percent of players listed as “Probable” in prior years did play. The league gave that historical figure as context for eliminating Probable from the Game Status Report. It is not a current rate, nor a forecast for any particular player.
