There is no universal coin price that makes an FC Squad Building Challenge (SBC) worth completing. Compare the full cost of the required squads with what the reward would cost or do for your club, then account for the coins and cards you would give up. Check the live requirements and prices just before submitting: EA says SBC items are permanently removed from your Club and submissions cannot be reversed.
Start with the complete SBC, not one squad estimate
Open the challenge in Ultimate Team and read every requirement and reward before pricing anything. Record the required ratings, chemistry, leagues or nations, number of squads, expiry time, and all rewards in the group. A price estimate for one segment is not the total cost if the challenge requires several squads.
Also distinguish a player reward from a pack or pick. A player can be compared with an alternative you could obtain on the market; a pack is uncertain and should not be valued as though its best possible pull were guaranteed.

Separate coins from club cards
List the items you would need to buy and the items you already own. For purchases, check the Transfer Market in your game on your platform immediately before completing the SBC. Prices move with demand, so a figure seen earlier—or on another platform—may not match your actual cost. EA describes Ultimate Team item prices as fluctuating with overall demand in its coin-safety guidance.

Third-party SBC listings may help you estimate a cheapest squad and see an expiry time, but they are not an EA guarantee and can become stale. For example, FUTEvolution’s SBC listings are a separate source; verify every estimate against your own in-game market and the exact requirements.
Count the alternative use of submitted cards
A tradeable card you submit could instead be sold, so its current market value is part of the cost even if you bought it earlier for a different amount. An untradeable card cannot be sold, but it is not automatically free: it may help with a later SBC or another squad need. Ask what your best next use for each valuable item would be, rather than counting every owned card as having no cost.

EA’s rule is explicit: “Once you submit Items to Squad Building Challenge (SBC), they’re permanently removed from your Club in exchange for rewards.” See EA Help’s missing-items guidance.

Compare the reward with a realistic alternative
For a player reward
Find a comparable player you could obtain on the current market and compare the cost with the SBC’s total cost, including the value of cards surrendered. Then judge whether the SBC player fits your formation, chemistry, and actual playing needs. An untradeable SBC player may be useful in your team, but you cannot treat the reward as equivalent to a tradeable alternative if you value the ability to sell or replace that alternative.

Overall rating alone does not settle the comparison. A high-rated reward is poor value for your club if it does not improve your lineup, while a less expensive-looking option may be worthwhile if it fills a position you need and the resources used have little better purpose.
For a pack or pick
Do not assign the pack the value of its most exciting possible item. Check the in-game probability disclosure and treat the outcome as uncertain. EA explains that probabilities apply to a pack at a time and are not cumulative: “Any probability percentages that you see are on a pack-by-pack basis and are not cumulative.” Its pack-probability page, dated August 20, 2026, describes how to interpret them. A probability for a category or rating range is not a promise of a particular player; individual items within that category may have much lower odds, and separate pack openings are independent.

Use a personal decision rule
Completing the SBC can make sense when the reward is something you will use, the full cost is acceptable to you, and the coins and items spent have no more valuable near-term use. Skip it or wait when a comparable alternative costs less, the reward does not improve your club, or the challenge would leave you short of coins or useful cards for a higher-priority need.

There is no generally established break-even coin threshold or expected-return figure that answers this for every SBC. The answer depends on your platform’s live prices, your club inventory, the reward’s fit, and what else you might do with those resources. If you are deciding whether it is “bad to spend coins on SBCs,” the useful question is whether this particular spend beats your next-best use of the coins and cards.
Do one final check before submission
- Reopen the challenge and confirm the exact requirements, all reward segments, and remaining time.
- Check current prices for any items you still need on your own platform; revise your estimate if the market has moved.
- Inspect the selected squad item by item, especially valuable tradeable cards and untradeable cards you may want for another challenge.
- Confirm that the reward still suits your club and that you accept the full cost. Submit only when you are certain: EA says the items cannot be restored by reversing an SBC submission.
Keep coin spending within EA’s rules
EA says you can earn Ultimate Team Coins by playing matches or selling items on the Transfer Market, but you cannot purchase Coins. Its guidance states: “You can earn Coins in FC Ultimate Team™ by playing matches or selling Items on the Transfer Market, but you can’t purchase Coins.” Do not use third-party coin purchases or coin transfers to fund an SBC; follow EA’s coin and points safety guidance.
