To check an Amazon.com item’s return eligibility, review its product detail page before buying or the return options for that order in Order History afterward. Warranty coverage is separate: check the listing’s warranty details or ask the manufacturer. The exact terms depend on the item, its condition, and who sold it.
Check return eligibility before you buy
- Open the product detail page. Find the return-eligibility information and the stated return window. Amazon directs customers to the product detail page for item-specific eligibility: Amazon Return Policy.
- Read the conditions, not just the number of days. Note any condition requirements and whether the terms apply to the item you are considering. A general policy does not guarantee that every product is returnable on the same terms.
- Check who sells and fulfills the item. For a third-party seller, review the seller-specific return information as well as the listing’s terms.
Check an order after purchase
Open Order History, select the purchase, and review the return options shown for that order. Those order-specific options are the practical place to confirm whether a return is available and what steps apply. For a third-party-seller purchase, start the request through Amazon’s Online Returns Center process for third-party sellers and follow the instructions shown for the item.
Understand the return window and refund timing
Amazon.com’s general rule is that most items can be returned within 30 days of delivery if they are in original or unused condition. This is not a guarantee for every item: Amazon’s policy lists exceptions with windows of 7, 15, 90, 180, or 365 days for specified product types, conditions, or registry purchases. Check the exact terms on the listing or order rather than assuming one of these windows applies.
The time allowed to return an item is different from the time it takes to receive a refund. Amazon’s policy says processing can take up to 30 days for Amazon or the seller to receive and process a return; a financial institution may take additional time to make funds available. Eligibility is determined after the return is received, so a return request does not by itself confirm a refund.

Check warranty coverage separately
A return is governed by the applicable Amazon or seller return terms. A manufacturer warranty is a separate product-coverage commitment. Review the warranty information on the product detail page, then contact the manufacturer directly to confirm coverage, registration requirements, and any limits for the specific item. Amazon cautions that a manufacturer warranty may not cover used products offered on Amazon.com.
For used or renewed items, identify who provides the stated warranty—the manufacturer, refurbisher, seller, or another provider—and read that provider’s terms. Amazon’s return policy does not establish that a used item has manufacturer warranty coverage.

Know what applies to third-party seller issues
Returns for third-party seller purchases should be initiated through Amazon’s Online Returns Center and handled according to the item-specific instructions. If the seller does not resolve an eligible transaction issue, Amazon’s A-to-z Guarantee may provide a separate route to seek a refund. It is conditional, not automatic: Amazon describes requirements that can include contacting the seller and waiting more than 48 hours without resolution, as well as situation-specific delivery and claim-timing rules. It is not a manufacturer warranty.
Before returning an electronic device
Erase personal information from electronics before sending them back. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions or contact its support if you need help removing personal data; Amazon also provides guidance on returning ordered items.

Use this checklist for a specific item
- Confirm the return window and condition requirements on the product page or in Order History.
- Check the seller and fulfillment details, especially for marketplace purchases.
- Read the warranty provider and coverage terms separately from the return terms.
- For a seller issue, use Amazon’s return process and check A-to-z Guarantee conditions only if the issue qualifies.
- For a device return, erase personal information before shipping it back.
