It may help, but the headline alone does not establish which Samsung device or feature was changed—or how many hours were gained. Always-On Display (AOD) is one plausible setting, not a confirmed answer. Samsung phone guidance says AOD uses power, while describing its battery impact as relatively modest and offering “Tap to show” as a middle ground. No measured phone result is available here, so an hours-long gain should not be treated as verified.
What feature was turned off?
The claim does not identify the Samsung device, its software version, the setting, or the test conditions. AOD is a reasonable possibility because it keeps information visible on the display, but there is no evidence that it was the feature behind the headline. Without those details, the claimed result cannot be reproduced or applied to a particular Samsung phone.
On a phone with AOD, the setting can be found in the display options; exact menu labels vary by model and software version. Samsung owners can look under Settings > Lock screen and AOD or search Settings for “Always On Display.” Depending on the device, available choices may include turning it off or showing it only after tapping the screen.
How much battery can turning off AOD save?
There is no established number of hours for the unidentified device. SamMobile describes AOD’s impact on Samsung AMOLED phones as relatively modest and does not quantify hours saved. The actual difference depends on the phone and how it is used; “Tap to show” can reduce continuous display activity without removing at-a-glance access. SamMobile’s battery-drain guidance discusses these options.

Watch figures should not be used to fill that gap. In a 2025 review, Tom’s Guide reported Samsung’s estimate of roughly 30 hours per charge with AOD on and 40 hours with it off for standard Galaxy Watch 8 models. The same review reported its own Watch 8 Classic test averaging 40 hours with AOD on and more than 50 hours with it off. Those figures concern a specific smartwatch and its reported conditions—not an unnamed Samsung phone. Read the Watch 8 review.
How to check whether AOD makes a meaningful difference
For a useful comparison, change only the AOD setting and keep other conditions as similar as practical. Battery estimates are affected by brightness, network signal, apps, and activity, so a casual before-and-after impression is not a controlled measurement.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.
- Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro). Battery: 5000 mAh, non-removable | A power adapter is NOT included.
- Record the baseline: note the phone model, software version, battery level, AOD setting, and the start and end times of the comparison.
- Choose a comparison mode: compare AOD on with “Tap to show” or AOD off, if those options are available on your phone.
- Keep usage as consistent as practical: use similar brightness, apps, location settings, and network conditions, and compare across similar time windows.
- Repeat before drawing a conclusion: report the observed difference and the conditions rather than promising the same result to other users.
Other Samsung phone settings that affect battery life
AOD is only one possible contributor. Samsung Business Insights’ February 2023 guidance covers several controls; menu names and availability may differ on newer software and across models.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Brightness and refresh rate: lowering brightness or choosing a lower refresh rate can reduce display demand, with a trade-off in visibility or smoothness.
- Dark theme and screen timeout: a dark theme and a shorter time before the screen turns off may reduce display use.
- Background apps: limit background activity for apps that do not need to update or sync continuously.
- Location and roaming: review location access and turn off roaming when it is not needed. Avoid disabling connectivity you rely on.
- Power-saving mode: Samsung’s description says it can limit background activity and network use and may reduce brightness, resolution, or processor speed. The exact effects and battery gain depend on model and usage. SamMobile’s explanation of Samsung power-saving mode provides more detail.

When the drain may have another cause
A setting change may not solve battery drain caused by network conditions or recent software activity. SamMobile notes that weak or inconsistent 5G coverage can make a phone work harder to maintain a connection; if 5G speed is not needed in a poor-coverage area, LTE may be an option. The same guide says optimization after a software update can take 24–48 hours. These are general troubleshooting considerations, not a diagnosis of any particular phone.
