Before you pay, run two separate checks: use the manufacturer or Carlcare service available in your region to check the phone’s identity, and use a checker for your country or intended carrier to check whether its IMEI is flagged. First compare the IMEI displayed on the phone with the number on its box or label, if available. A brand or warranty result does not clear a phone’s blacklist status, and a clean blacklist result does not prove the phone is genuine.
Check the phone’s IMEI before paying
- Ask the seller to show you the phone’s IMEI. Open the dialer and enter
*#06#. A dual-SIM phone may display two IMEIs; record and check each one. - Compare the numbers. Check the displayed IMEI against the number in Settings, usually under About phone or Status, and against the box or device label if one is available. Menu names vary by model and region. TECNO describes these ways to find the IMEI, and Infinix’s Uzbekistan authentication page also lists the dialer, settings, and box. TECNO support; Infinix Uzbekistan.
- Enter the IMEI only in an official service. Check that the page is for the relevant brand and region before submitting the number.
An IMEI match shows that the number displayed by the phone agrees with the labels you can inspect. It does not establish ownership or prove that the IMEI has never been copied or altered. GSMA notes that a device’s IMEI may be tampered with or incorrectly manufactured. GSMA IMEI information.
Use a brand or Carlcare lookup for authenticity
Look for an official TECNO, Infinix, or itel authentication or support page for the country where you are buying the phone. These services are regional, so a page available in one country may not be available in another.

- itel: Reviewed regional pages for Nigeria and the Philippines describe an IMEI query for phone authenticity. itel Nigeria; itel Philippines.
- Infinix: The Uzbekistan page provides an IMEI authentication form; its availability does not establish that the same tool is offered worldwide. Infinix Uzbekistan.
- TECNO: TECNO India offers an IMEI warranty check and directs users to official after-sales support if equipment information is unavailable. A warranty lookup is not a blacklist check. TECNO India warranty check.
- Carlcare: Carlcare identifies itself as an official customer service provider for TECNO, Infinix, and itel, and its global warranty-check page accepts IMEI lookups. Use the appropriate support channel if a regional page has no record. Carlcare warranty check.
If a lookup returns no record, first recheck the IMEI you entered and confirm you are using the correct regional service. A missing result alone does not show that a phone is counterfeit or genuine; ask the manufacturer or Carlcare to verify it.

Check whether the IMEI is flagged or blocked
Use a public device-status checker recommended by the buyer’s intended mobile carrier or country’s regulator. GSMA Device Check reports whether an IMEI is currently flagged on the GSMA Block List: green means it is not currently flagged in that list, while red means it has been flagged and may be barred from sale or cellular use. That result is limited to the registry and records available at the time of the lookup. GSMA says status data comes from participating mobile network operators and approved commercial device owners; not every network or market necessarily participates. A green result is therefore not a promise that every carrier will accept the phone.

A red result may relate to a device reported lost or stolen, or another reason it is unsuitable for cellular networks. Do not buy unless the reporting organization or carrier resolves the status through its official process. If the result seems mistaken, GSMA advises consumers to contact their wireless provider, which can verify the account and recent network activity.

Check that the phone works on your intended network
If practical, insert a SIM from the carrier you plan to use and confirm that the phone can make a call or use mobile data. This checks basic connectivity at that moment; it does not prove authenticity, ownership, or that the IMEI will remain unflagged.

How to act on a mismatch or warning
- The seller will not show the IMEI: Pause the purchase. You cannot complete the checks without the identifier.
- The IMEI differs between the phone and a label or box: Do not assume the phone is counterfeit, but treat the discrepancy as a serious warning. Ask for proof of ownership and seek confirmation from official brand support or the relevant carrier before paying.
- A checker reports a different model from the handset: Do not proceed until it is investigated. GSMA says that such a mismatch may mean the device is counterfeit or its electronic identity has been tampered with. GSMA Device Check FAQ.
- The IMEI is flagged: Wait for the reporting organization or carrier to resolve it through an official process; do not rely on the seller’s assurance alone.
- A brand lookup has no record: Recheck the number and region, then contact the manufacturer or Carlcare. A no-record result is not a definitive verdict.
