Check two things separately: whether the service operates where you live, and whether it has rights to the specific sport, league or event there. Then verify the local schedule, subscription tier, blackout rules and travel terms before paying. A service’s app being available in your country does not guarantee that it carries the game you want.
1. Confirm the service operates in your country
Start with the provider’s official country-availability page or help center. Check the country where you live, not just the language or region selected in an app store. Availability lists on older third-party pages can become stale.
For example, DAZN says it is available in more than 200 countries, but also says its content, events and schedules vary by country and change periodically. That statement is not proof that a particular event is available where you live. Check DAZN’s current country availability information and then check the event itself.

Use the sport’s governing body, league or event organizer to identify the current broadcaster for your country. This is a separate check from whether a streaming brand operates there: rights can differ by territory, competition, event and season.

Formula 1, for example, maintains a territory and broadcaster list and directs viewers to local listings for exact television coverage. Its F1 TV terms also make clear that features and access depend on territory and rights restrictions. A broadcaster listing is a useful lead, but confirm whether it covers the specific event and whether the rights are live, replay or highlights.
3. Verify the local catalogue, schedule and subscription tier
On the provider’s local site or app, look up the competition or event and check its schedule close to the date you plan to watch. Confirm which subscription tier includes it and whether that tier offers live coverage, replays or on-demand viewing. Do not assume a listing in a global catalogue applies to your country.

When comparing services, check each of these locally:
- Whether the service is offered in your country.
- Whether it lists the specific event or competition you want.
- Whether the coverage is live, replay or on-demand.
- Which tier includes it and the current local price.
- Any blackout or location restrictions.
- Whether access changes when you travel.
- Supported devices and viewing quality.
Prices, device requirements and viewing quality are not established by the country and rights information above; check the providers’ current local pages for those details. Rights and catalogues can change, so confirm again shortly before subscribing or viewing.

4. Check blackouts and location verification
Even when a service carries an event, your location when you try to watch may affect access. ESPN says blackouts are enforced according to the viewer’s location and that it may use different methods to verify geographic location; its support guidance says location access must be enabled for ESPN service access. See ESPN’s blackout policy.
ESPN’s blackout troubleshooting guidance says blackout location is determined by IP address and points viewers to local listings and league tools, including the MLB availability locator and NHL blackout detector. See how ESPN determines location for blackouts. If a stream is blocked, check the event’s local availability and the provider’s location settings rather than assuming the service has no rights in your country.

5. Treat travel as a separate availability question
A subscription that works at home may be subject to different territorial rules when you travel. Read the provider’s terms for travel, home territory and access abroad; F1 TV’s terms, for instance, distinguish a subscriber’s home territory from restrictions elsewhere.
Temporary travel within the EU
Eligible EU residents with a covered paid online content subscription have portability protections when temporarily present in another EU Member State. Article 3 of Regulation (EU) 2017/1128 requires covered paid services to be provided in the same manner as in the subscriber’s home Member State, including the same content and functionalities. This is a temporary-travel rule, not a general right to subscribe from another country or proof that a service is available in your country of residence.

The EU’s Your Europe guidance on accessing online content abroad, checked July 1, 2026, explains that paid-for services can be accessed while traveling to another EU country; free services are covered only if the provider chooses to offer portability. Eligibility and the regulation’s scope matter.
Why a service’s country count can mislead
Availability figures describe a service’s reach, not its rights to every event. As one illustration of how offerings can be product- and territory-specific, Disney+ announced that ESPN on Disney+ launched on April 7, 2026, in Europe and selected Asia-Pacific markets, covering 53 countries and territories across those regions. That announcement describes that launch; it is not a current complete country list or a guarantee that every ESPN product or event is included everywhere. Check the relevant local service and event listing in Disney+’s announcement.
