Compare the deal with the exact item’s price history—not just its crossed-out price or discount percentage. Start with Amazon’s price-history chart, look at 90 days or more when available, and check the final price and any coupon conditions before buying.
Check the price history for the exact item
Open the product page and confirm that the deal is for the same model and configuration you intend to buy. Storage capacity, bundle contents, and other variations can affect price, so a chart for a similar listing may not be a useful comparison.

If Amazon provides a price-history link on the product page, open it. Amazon also says customers can ask Alexa for Shopping questions such as “What’s the price history?” and “Has this item been on sale in the past 30 days?” Availability and feature coverage can vary by market and product page.
Use a long enough comparison period
Amazon describes 30-, 90-, and 365-day price-history views. Use a 90-day view at minimum when available, then check a 365-day view if your market and product page offer it. A longer chart can reveal seasonal patterns or older lows that a short view misses.
#1 Best Overall
- Amazon.com Gift Cards never expire and carry no fees.
- Multiple gift card designs and denominations to choose from.
- Redeemable towards millions of items store-wide at Amazon.com or certain affiliated websites.
- Available for immediate delivery. Gift cards sent by email can be scheduled up to a year in advance.
- No returns and no refunds on Gift Cards.
Amazon’s 2026 announcement said price history was available to customers in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and India. It also said 365-day insights were rolling out in the United States, United Kingdom, and India, with full availability expected in the coming weeks at the time of publication. Because rollout and access can change, check the feature on your own product page.
Read the chart as context, not a guarantee
Ask where the current offer sits relative to the item’s usual price range and recent lows. A price close to a recent low may be more compelling than one that is near the usual range, but the chart alone cannot tell you whether the price will fall further or how likely that is.

Understand Amazon’s reference-price labels
Typical Price
Amazon defines Typical Price as the median non-promotional price customers paid over the previous 90 days. Effective May 18, 2026, Amazon says that if more than half of a product’s 90-day price-history days are below the non-promotional median, it will calculate Typical Price using all sales, including promotional sales. Amazon also says discounts not advertised to customers as promotions count as non-promotional.

List Price
Effective April 23, 2026, Amazon says a List Price must meet one of two validation conditions: the product was recently offered at that price by another retailer, or customers purchased it as Amazon’s Featured Offer at that price.
These labels add context, but neither proves that the current offer is the lowest price available or a good value for you. Compare the item’s own price history rather than relying on the displayed reference price or percentage off.

Use another tracker if it helps
CamelCamelCamel describes Amazon price-history charts and price-drop alerts. You can use a tracker to view a separate chart or monitor a price, then return to the live product page to check the actual offer. The tracker information cited here does not establish that every coupon or final checkout condition is captured.

Check the real checkout price before deciding
- Confirm any coupon is applied and note eligibility conditions.
- Check shipping, seller, and other offer details that affect the amount you will pay.
- Decide whether the item is worth buying at that final price, rather than treating a sale label as a reason to purchase.
For U.S. advertising, the FTC says a former-price comparison is legitimate when the former price was “the actual, bona fide price at which the article was offered to the public on a regular basis for a reasonably substantial period of time.” It warns that an artificial, inflated former price used to create the appearance of a large reduction can make a bargain claim false. The FTC also states: “The same standards for truthfulness apply when companies make claims about price comparisons, ‘sale’ prices, and the like.”
