To find out whether you need a PlayStation—or can play a game on Xbox or PC—check the exact game and edition in official storefronts, then confirm any missing or upcoming platform in a dated publisher announcement. Record the platforms and region shown, and treat “exclusive” as true only for a stated platform and date. A PlayStation-associated game may later arrive on PC, while PC availability says nothing by itself about Xbox support.
Check the exact game in official storefronts
- Start with the PlayStation game page. Search the official PlayStation catalogue for the exact title and check whether its listing specifies PS4, PS5, or another platform. For PC releases, PlayStation’s PC games catalogue lists titles and links to Steam or the Epic Games Store.
- Search Xbox and PC stores separately. Look for the same title in the relevant Xbox storefront and on the PC storefronts named by the publisher. Do not assume that a PlayStation PC listing means an Xbox version exists, or that a game on one PC store is available on every PC store.
- Compare the edition and region. Check the platform, edition, release status, and regional storefront. A listing for a deluxe edition, a different console generation, or a different country does not necessarily answer whether the edition you want is available where you play.
- Check the date and status. Distinguish a game you can buy or play now from an announced release with a future date. Store listings and platform plans can change, so record when you checked and revisit the listing near purchase or publication.
The official US PlayStation PC catalogue is a useful starting point for PlayStation-published PC games, but it is not a complete database of every game associated with PlayStation. Verify the individual title rather than relying on a publisher or franchise label.
Use announcements when a store listing is missing
If a platform store does not show the game—or the release is upcoming—look for a dated announcement from the developer, publisher, or platform holder. An announcement can establish a planned release before a store page appears. Check the wording carefully: “coming to” is a plan, not proof that the version is available to play today.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- In an Xbox Wire announcement dated May 5, 2025, The Coalition listed Gears of War: Reloaded for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and Steam, with an August 26, 2025 launch date. This dated, multi-platform announcement is more useful than inferring availability from the franchise name.
- Sony’s April 30, 2026 press release for SAROS described its launch as exclusive to PlayStation 5. That supports a PS5-exclusive launch statement as of that announcement; it does not establish a permanent rule for all PlayStation-associated games.
- Kojima Productions’ Jay Boor announced a PC release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach for March 19, 2026, with Steam and Epic Games Store pre-purchases, in a PlayStation.Blog post. The example shows why a platform claim needs a date: a game’s release history can change when a later port arrives.
- A September 24, 2026 PlayStation.Blog post said Luma Island was coming to PS5 and would support cross-platform play across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A game appearing on PlayStation’s blog does not, on its own, mean it is exclusive to PlayStation.
Interpret “exclusive” narrowly
“Exclusive” is incomplete unless it says exclusive to which platform, in what release window, and as of what date. A game may launch on one console, later receive a PC version, or appear on several systems from the start. Prefer precise wording such as “listed for PS5 only in the official announcement dated [date]” over an unqualified claim that it is permanently exclusive.

If you checked the official listings and relevant announcements but found no other platform version, say that no other listing or announcement was found as of the check date. A missing listing is not proof that a port will never happen.
Separate platform availability from ownership and features
Finding the game on two platforms answers where versions exist; it does not settle whether one purchase works on both or whether players can share saves or play together. Check the title’s store page and support information for each feature separately.

- Cross-buy or ownership: A PC edition and a PlayStation console edition may be separate products. PlayStation’s PC Games FAQ says it is not currently possible to buy the PC version of a title and then play it on PS4 or PS5, or vice versa. Do not assume a purchase transfers between platforms unless the title explicitly documents that entitlement.
- Cross-play: This means players on different platforms can play together. It must be stated for the specific game; multiplatform availability alone does not establish it.
- Cross-progression and saves: These concern carrying progress between platforms and may have rules distinct from cross-play. Xbox Wire’s Gears of War: Reloaded announcement separately stated cross-play and cross-progression support. PlayStation’s FAQ says save transfer between PC and PS4/PS5 versions of PlayStation Studios games is currently unavailable.
Check PC account and controller requirements
Before buying a PC edition, read its listing and support notes for account requirements and controls. PlayStation says some PC games require a PlayStation Network account for certain modes or features. Its FAQ also says DualSense works with PlayStation Studios PC games over a wired connection, while support for specific controller features and wireless connectivity varies by title. These requirements are title-specific, so do not generalize them to every PC game.

For a reliable answer about one game, write down the exact title and edition, the official listings checked, the platforms and storefronts named, the region, and the date. Note separately whether each version is available now or merely announced, and whether the publisher confirms cross-play, cross-progression, or cross-buy. This makes the answer useful without turning an unverified absence into a claim of permanent exclusivity.
