To check whether a phone case fits, identify your phone’s full model name and any relevant variant, then match it to the case maker’s compatibility listing. After fitting the case, check that it sits securely and that its camera, sensor, button, charging-port, and speaker openings line up. A matching brand, product family, or screen size alone does not confirm compatibility.
1. Identify your exact phone model
Start with the phone, not the case listing. Find the complete model name or model number in the phone’s About screen or by following the manufacturer’s identification instructions. Record distinctions such as size or generation when they apply; a broad family name may cover devices with different bodies and layouts.
For an iPhone, Apple’s model-identification information lists model numbers with model names and distinguishing details. For other phones, use the device maker’s current instructions. Menu paths vary, so do not assume that another manufacturer uses the same About-screen steps.
2. Match the case listing to that model
Read the compatibility information from the case maker or seller and look for your exact model and variant. Do not treat a similar name, a shared brand, or a matching screen size as proof of fit. Phones that look alike can differ in body dimensions and in the position or shape of their cameras, buttons, sensors, and openings.

If the listing names only a general phone family, leaves out the variant you have, or is unclear about compatibility, check with the case maker or seller before buying. A dimensions match may help narrow down options, but it does not replace an exact compatibility listing and an alignment check.
3. Check the fit after installation
- Align the camera opening first. Place the phone into the case without forcing it and check that the camera area is clear and correctly positioned.
- Seat the rest of the phone. Press it into place and inspect whether the case sits evenly and securely around the edges.
- Check every opening and control. Make sure the case does not obstruct the camera, fingerprint sensor, charging port, speakers, or buttons. Confirm that buttons and ports are accessible rather than covered by a misplaced edge.
- Stop if the fit is uncertain. If the case will not seat normally, appears uneven, or leaves an opening misaligned, do not force it. Recheck the model and compatibility listing, or ask the case maker or seller to confirm the pairing.
Huawei’s instructions for a TPU-case example recommend aligning the camera cutout first, pressing the rest of the phone into the case, and adjusting the case slightly if needed. That is an example for that fitting context, not a guarantee that every case material or design should be adjusted the same way.

Will an old phone case fit a new phone?
It depends on the exact old and new phone models and on the case maker’s compatibility information. A case that fits one generation is not automatically compatible with the next: small differences in body shape or camera, button, sensor, and port placement can prevent proper seating or alignment. Verify the new phone’s exact model against the case listing rather than relying on the family name or appearance.

Quick compatibility checklist
- The phone’s full model name or number is identified, including any relevant size or generation variant.
- The case listing explicitly includes that exact model.
- The camera opening and other cutouts align with the phone.
