Do not assume your reservation was canceled—or that it will automatically carry over—because a hotel changed owners or management. Contact both the property and the company you booked through, then get written confirmation that the reservation is active and that its dates, room, rate, and key terms match your original confirmation. Keep your original booking record and do not cancel or accept changed terms until you understand the consequences.
What an ownership change does—and does not—tell you
A sale or management handoff does not, by itself, establish whether a particular reservation is in the hotel’s current system. The available guidance is specific to a booking platform or property, not a universal rule for every hotel, country, or booking channel.
For example, Agoda’s partner guidance says confirmed Agoda bookings must be honored by old or new management and describes how management should coordinate reservations during a transition. Check the booking record in this order
- Find your original confirmation. Note the confirmation or itinerary number, guest name, stay dates, room type, rate, cancellation terms, and whether payment was collected or is due at the property. These details help the property and booking channel find and compare the reservation.
- Ask the property for a current-system check. Use contact details on the hotel’s current official website. Ask whether the reservation is active in its current reservation system and whether the dates, room, rate, and key terms match your confirmation. Request the answer by email or message.
- Contact the company you booked through. Give it the same confirmation number and details. Ask it to verify that the booking remains confirmed and, if possible, that the property has acknowledged it. The booking channel matters because a hotel brand may not be able to access or change a reservation made through an intermediary.
- Save the records. Keep the original confirmation, any updated itinerary, and replies from both parties. If the reservation cannot be found, ask each party to state what record it can see and who will correct any mismatch.
- Get options before changing anything. If the parties cannot confirm the stay, ask the booking channel what options it can offer before voluntarily canceling or accepting changed dates or terms. Review the original cancellation and payment conditions first.
Who to contact depends on how you booked

Policies vary by brand and case. Marriott says most reservations can be changed or canceled online or in its app within the hotel’s cancellation window, while some changes—including certain guest-name changes—require contacting the hotel or a reservation associate: Marriott reservation FAQs. Hilton describes online and app management for direct bookings and directs customers to the third party for third-party reservations; it says Hilton cannot adjust those reservations: Hilton reservation help.

Ask each party to put its position in writing and identify the record it is relying on. If the property cannot find the reservation, ask the booking channel to confirm the booking status and explain its process for a confirmed reservation the property will not accommodate. Compare any proposed change with your original room, dates, rate, cancellation terms, and payment arrangement before agreeing.
