To check an Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) appeal, use the official ITAT Case Status page. It searches public appeal records by appeal number, filing date, assessee name, or acknowledgement number. If you mean the progress of the e-filing submission rather than the appeal record, use ITAT’s separate e-filing status route or sign in to the Appeal Dashboard.

Choose the right ITAT status route

ITAT provides separate routes for a public appeal lookup, checking an e-filing submission, and managing filings after signing in. Use the one that matches what you need to know:

Route What it is for What you need
Case Status Look up the public record for an appeal Bench and appeal type, plus an appeal number, filing date, assessee name, or acknowledgement number
“Know Your e-Filing status” Check the progress/status of an e-filing submission, as described in ITAT’s 2021 e-Filing FAQ PAN, email ID, and acknowledgement number
Appeal Dashboard View e-filing details, rectify defects, or file documents and petitions Dashboard access; ITAT lists password and OTP/PVC login options

The public Case Status page is the direct place to search for an appeal record. The FAQ’s e-filing status instructions concern the submission itself, while the dashboard supports account-level filing tasks.

Search the public appeal record

  1. Open the official ITAT Case Status page.
  2. Select the search route that matches your records: appeal number, date of filing, assessee name, or acknowledgement number.
  3. Enter the relevant search details, including the bench and appeal type requested by the form. For an appeal-number search, have the filing year available as well.
  4. Complete the CAPTCHA shown on the page and submit the search.

The available search routes and form requirements are shown on the live Case Status page. If you do not have an appeal number, try another route using the filing date, assessee name, or acknowledgement number recorded for the matter.

Check the status of an e-filed submission

ITAT’s e-Filing FAQs, dated 24 June 2021, answer this question under Q20, “I have e-Filed an appeal. Can I know the status of my e-Filing?” The FAQ says to choose “Know Your e-Filing status” and submit the PAN number, email ID, and acknowledgement number. Because that guidance is from 2021, check the live portal for the current menu wording and availability.

ITAT’s Standard Operating Procedure, also dated 24 June 2021, says a successful e-filing generates an acknowledgement. Keep that acknowledgement so you can use its number for the applicable status lookup.

Use the Appeal Dashboard for filing actions

If you need to view e-filing details, rectify a defect, or file documents or petitions, use the Appeal Dashboard rather than relying only on a public case search. ITAT describes password and OTP/PVC login options; follow the options currently displayed on the portal.

If your appeal does not appear

  • Check that the bench and appeal type match the matter.
  • Compare the filing year and identifier with the acknowledgement or filing record.
  • Try another available Case Status search route, such as filing date, assessee name, or acknowledgement number.
  • If the problem is technical or involves uploading an enclosure, consult ITAT’s Help page and verify the current contact details there.
  • For a question about an already e-filed appeal or application, contact the relevant bench using the contact details in ITAT’s e-Filing FAQs.

ITAT’s FAQ distinguishes technical portal or upload problems from questions about a specific e-filed appeal or application. Its contact details can change, so confirm them on the current official site before sending a query.

What a status result can—and cannot—tell you

The official pages cited here establish the lookup routes, but they do not provide a glossary for individual status labels or a schedule for when records update. Do not infer a hearing date, next action, or timing from an unfamiliar label without confirmation from ITAT. The dated “What’s New” listings may help you locate cause lists or pronouncement lists, but they are not a substitute for the case-specific lookup.
