The Apex Legends “Unsupported CPU” or “CPU does not have SSSE 3” message means the game has detected a processor instruction-set compatibility problem. EA clarified that the requirement is SSSE3—with three S characters—not SSE3. If the processor truly lacks SSSE3, reinstalling Apex or changing graphics settings cannot add the missing hardware capability; the system needs a compatible processor or platform.
What the SSSE3 error means
SSSE3 is a processor instruction-set feature that Apex Legends requires. In a 2019 EA Answers HQ thread, EA Community Admin EA_David wrote: “If you have a CPU without SSSE3 unfortunately the game won’t run on that system.” He also clarified that the error refers to “SSSE3, note the 3rd S.” Read EA’s historical clarification.
SSE3 and SSSE3 are different feature names. A processor supporting SSE3 alone is not thereby confirmed to support SSSE3. Also, the error is distinct from problems involving DirectX, graphics hardware, anti-cheat, or damaged game files. Treat the exact text as a clue to investigate, not proof that every startup failure has the same cause.

- Record the full error text. Note whether it names SSSE3, SSE3, POPCNT, or another feature; do not assume these labels are interchangeable.
- Identify the exact CPU model. Use Windows system information or a reputable processor-identification utility, then verify the model’s instruction-set features against the processor manufacturer’s specifications.
- If you use a virtual machine, check its exposed CPU features. A virtual CPU may not expose every feature of the physical processor. The available EA sources do not establish virtualization as the cause of any particular player’s error, so treat this as a check rather than a diagnosis.
- Compare the rest of the PC with EA’s current requirements. A supported CPU does not make an otherwise under-spec system compatible.

Electronic Arts’ current PC requirements page lists these minimum specifications. Requirements can change, so check EA’s page for the latest version before making an upgrade decision.

These are EA’s published minimum PC specifications, not a recommendation that either listed processor will fit or work well in every computer. The page also lists recommended specifications, including an Intel Core i5-3570K or equivalent, 8 GB RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 290. Consult EA’s page directly for current details, including graphics-memory information.
What to do if your CPU lacks SSSE3
If the processor’s specifications confirm that SSSE3 is absent, software troubleshooting cannot add the instruction. EA’s published guidance says Apex will not run on a system with a CPU lacking the feature. A compatible CPU upgrade may be possible, but only if the rest of the system supports it.

- Find the exact motherboard model and check its supported-CPU list.
- Verify socket and chipset compatibility, required BIOS version, and any power or cooling constraints.
- Compare the cost and practicality of a CPU-only upgrade with replacing the motherboard or platform.
- Check the complete PC against EA’s requirements rather than choosing a processor based only on the error wording.
EA’s requirements page provides minimum CPU examples, not a compatibility list for individual motherboards. Do not buy a processor until you have confirmed support for your specific board and BIOS.
What to do if your CPU supports SSSE3
If the processor is confirmed to support SSSE3 but Apex still reports the error, save the complete message and your CPU model, then contact EA support. The cited EA guidance does not establish a universal software workaround for that situation. Avoid unofficial executable patches or bypasses; they are not a supported way to resolve a hardware-feature check.
