If you’re looking for your own total hours played on PlayStation, Sony’s documented tools do not establish a universal lifetime-hours dashboard for adult accounts. For a child in your PlayStation family, the PlayStation Family app shows recent activity for the past seven days; on PS4, Family Management can show the child’s total playtime for the current day.
Which PlayStation playtime view do you need?
| Route | What it shows | Who it applies to |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation Family app Activity widget | Activity summary for the last seven days, including most-played games and apps | A child account managed in a PlayStation family; visible to family managers, parents, and guardians |
| PS4 Family Management | The child’s total playtime for the current day, measured as time logged in to the PS4 | A child or family member in the family controls on PS4 |
These are different measures, not interchangeable all-time totals. Sony’s official descriptions do not establish a universal adult account screen for lifetime hours or a complete all-time total by game. Individual games may expose their own playtime statistic, but that is separate from these family features.
See a child’s recent activity in the PlayStation Family app
- Open the PlayStation Family app and sign in.
- Select the child at the top of the home screen.
- Scroll to the Activity widget. It shows an activity summary for the last seven days and the child’s most-played games and apps. See Sony’s PlayStation account support and PlayStation Family App page.
If the information looks out of date, reopen or refresh the app. Sony says playtime data updates when the app is opened or refreshed. The app is free and its listed minimum operating-system versions are iOS 14 and Android 8. The feature is for children managed in a family, not a general adult playtime report.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCheck a child’s playtime for today on PS4
- On the PS4, open Settings > Parental Controls/Family Management > Family Management.
- Select the child or family member whose time you want to check.
- Review the total playtime for that day. Sony’s Canada guidance says the daily total resets at midnight in the time zone configured for the child.
On this screen, “playtime” means time the child is logged in to the PS4, even if no game or application is running. It is therefore not a count of active gameplay alone. The menu path and definition are documented in Sony’s About Ratings and Parental Controls (Canada).

Why you may not see a playtime report
- You are checking an adult account: The official app and PS4 routes described here concern child accounts in a family; Sony’s cited support pages do not document a universal adult lifetime-hours view.
- The account is not set up as a child in a family: Family activity visibility is tied to family roles and a child account. See Sony’s guidance on PlayStation privacy settings.
- You are expecting an all-time total: The app’s Activity widget covers seven days, while the PS4 screen reports the current day’s logged-in time.
- Family playtime controls are unavailable or not working as expected: Sony says they require a child account in the family, a family manager or appointed parent/guardian, and the child account’s time zone to be configured. See How to set playtime on PlayStation.
Sony’s parental-controls setup guide describes family management locations on PS4 and PS5. However, the documented daily child playtime check cited above is specifically a PS4 route; do not assume it provides an adult or all-time PS5 report.
