Before installing Gears of War: E-Day on PC, check that your Windows version, processor, memory, graphics card and target drive meet the current Steam requirements. The listing calls for an SSD with at least 115 GB available at both the minimum and recommended tiers; it warns that future updates may need more space.

The current Steam listing for Gears of War: E-Day specifies these minimum and recommended configurations. The listed GPUs must support hardware ray tracing.

These are the current requirements on the Steam listing, which says specifications may vary by country or change and that updates may require additional storage. The Coalition described the published PC specifications as final launch specifications in its Xbox Wire announcement; its September 28 editor’s note says the specifications image was updated. Check the live listing before installing in case requirements have changed.

- Open Settings > System > About.
- Under device specifications, note the processor model and installed RAM. Compare both with the minimum and recommended entries above.
- Under Windows specifications, check the edition, version and OS build. Confirm that Windows is 64-bit and compare it with the game’s listed tier.

How to check your graphics card and ray-tracing support
Find the exact GPU model through Windows system information or the computer maker’s or graphics-card vendor’s utility. Compare that model with the names in the requirements table; do not assume that any recent or gaming-capable GPU qualifies. The Steam listing explicitly requires hardware ray tracing, so verify that capability if the model name does not make it clear.
How to check SSD space before installing
- Open File Explorer > This PC.
- Find the drive where you plan to install the game and check the available space shown beneath it.
- Confirm the target drive is an SSD and has at least 115 GB free. If you are checking in Windows Settings instead, open Settings > System > Storage and inspect the relevant drive; advanced storage settings can help you view other drives.
The 115 GB figure is the listed available space for both tiers, not a guarantee of the game’s permanent total footprint. Steam does not give a specific extra-space figure for future updates, so there is no official number to add to the requirement. Check the listing again close to installation.

How to free space on the drive you will use
In Settings > System > Storage, review the categories using space, such as installed apps, temporary files and system-reserved storage. Windows also provides Storage Sense and Cleanup recommendations for reviewing potential items to remove.
- Review temporary files and Recycle Bin contents. Storage Sense can remove selected unneeded temporary files and Recycle Bin items. Microsoft describes it as a way to automatically clear items you do not need in its Storage settings in Windows guide.
- Check Cleanup recommendations. Review suggested temporary files, large or unused files, and rarely used apps before selecting anything for removal.
- Check the correct drive. Freeing space on C: will not help if the game is going on a different drive. Inspect and clean the drive that will actually hold the installation.

When a storage upgrade may be necessary
If the intended SSD does not have enough room after a careful cleanup, an additional or larger SSD may be an option. An upgrade is not necessary for everyone, and the game listing does not identify which drive format fits a particular desktop or laptop. Check the PC or motherboard documentation for supported drive types, connections and installation requirements before buying one.
