To check your JBL earbuds’ battery, first open the JBL Headphones app while the earbuds are paired; if your model supports battery monitoring, look for the charge information on the device screen. To check the charging case or confirm that the earbuds are charging, use the LED legend in the guide for your exact model. JBL’s app support and light patterns are not universal, so don’t infer a percentage or meaning from another model’s indicators.
Check battery information in the JBL Headphones app
- Pair your earbuds with your phone over Bluetooth.
- Open the JBL Headphones app and select the connected product if it appears.
- Look on the device screen for battery information. The app includes a documented battery-level monitor, but the available display and whether it appears depend on the earbud model and app version.
JBL’s support material does not establish that every model shows a numeric percentage, separate left- and right-earbud readings, or the same menu path. If you don’t see a battery reading, confirm that the earbuds are paired and recognized by the app, then check whether your model supports the feature.

Read the case and earbud lights for your model
LEDs may report the case’s charge, show whether the earbuds are charging, or communicate both. Use the quick-start guide for your specific model rather than applying another JBL product’s color or dot pattern.
JBL Free and Free X
JBL’s charging instructions for the Free and Free X describe four dots on the case for case-battery level. The earbuds have separate white rings that light while charging and go out when the earbuds are fully charged. The case dots and earbud rings therefore indicate different components.

JBL Wave Beam 2
The Wave Beam 2 quick-start guide uses red, orange, and green to indicate low, mid, and high case charge. Treat these as that model’s case-battery indicators, not a universal JBL color code.
Other JBL models
Guides for other models define their own charging and battery LED behaviors. For example, the Tune Buds 2 quick-start guide has a model-specific diagram for the earbuds and case. Check the guide’s legend to determine what each light means for your product.

Find the right guide and troubleshoot a missing reading
- Identify the model name printed on the case or packaging, or shown in your phone’s Bluetooth device listing.
- Search JBL Support for that model’s quick-start guide or FAQ.
- Use its LED legend to interpret the case and earbud lights; don’t estimate a percentage unless the guide provides one.
- If the app shows no battery information, check that the earbuds are paired and that the app recognizes them, then verify model support in the guide or the relevant JBL support page.
JBL’s support material documents a battery-monitor feature and a release-note fix for it, but it does not establish a universal repair procedure or reset sequence for missing readings. Avoid trying a reset as a guaranteed fix without model-specific instructions.
