To check whether Google has applied a manual action to your site, open the site’s property in Google Search Console and select Manual actions. A green check mark and a message saying no issues were detected mean the report lists no manual action for that property. If an action is listed, expand it to see the issue and affected-page patterns before you make changes or request a review.
Check the Manual actions report

Open Google Search Console and select the property for the site you want to check. Make sure you have selected the right property: the report’s result applies to the property you opened, not automatically to every site or property you manage.

Open Manual actions. Google recommends checking this report if the Search Console overview indicates that a manual action is present.

Read the report’s status. A green check mark with a message that no issues were detected means the report lists no manual action for the selected property. If the report lists one or more actions, open each entry to review its details.

What a manual action means
Google defines a manual action as a decision made after a human reviewer determines that pages on a site do not comply with Google’s spam policies. Depending on the action, some or all of the site may be omitted from Google Search results or rank lower. Google says most manual actions address attempts to manipulate its search index.
A manual action is different from an algorithmic ranking change. The Manual actions report is for policy findings made through manual review; it is not a general explanation of every drop in search traffic. A clean report tells you that it lists no manual action for the selected property, but it does not identify the cause of other ranking or traffic changes.

Understand the action’s scope before changing the site
For each listed action, expand its description and review the issue type, the short explanation, any affected-page patterns, and the guidance linked from the report. The pattern helps indicate where to investigate, but Google cautions that not every URL matching a displayed pattern is necessarily affected. Treat it as a guide to the affected scope, not as proof that every matching page has the issue.
An action may apply to part of a site or to the whole site. Read every listed action: if there is more than one, Google’s guidance is to address all of them, not just the first or the one that appears most serious. Use the issue-specific instructions in the report to determine what needs to change.

Manual actions and Security Issues are different reports
Both reports can point to serious site problems, but they cover different matters. Use the report that matches the warning or evidence you are investigating.

Google says these problems can lead to warning labels in search results or browser interstitials. | Investigate the security finding in the Security Issues report. Do not treat it as a manual action simply because it affects the site’s appearance or access in search. |
Fix the issue and make affected pages accessible
Follow the guidance for the specific manual action and correct the problem on every affected page. Before requesting a review, confirm that Google can access the pages it needs to assess. A page may be inaccessible to Google because it requires a login, sits behind a paywall, is blocked by robots.txt, or has a noindex directive.

Google identifies URL Inspection as a way to test whether a page is accessible. Check representative affected URLs, especially where a site-wide setting or template could prevent crawling. Resolving the policy issue alone is not enough if Google cannot reach the pages needed to verify the changes.

Select Request Review in the report.

Explain what the issue was, the specific steps you took to fix it, and the outcome. Give enough detail for Google to understand the changes rather than submitting a bare statement that the site is fixed.

Watch the report and Search Console’s message center for review-status messages and Google’s final decision. If a request is still outstanding, wait for that decision instead of submitting it again.
Google says it notifies the site owner about a manual action in the report and the message center. Keep checking both while a review is underway so you can see its status.

If the report is clean but the site is still struggling
A green check mark means the selected property’s Manual actions report lists no manual action; it does not diagnose other causes of reduced traffic or rankings. If your concern is a warning about malware, phishing, or another visitor-safety issue, check Security Issues instead. For a broader traffic drop, use the Manual actions report as one diagnostic check, not as a complete explanation.
