China Construction Bank Corporation (CCB) has two ordinary listed share lines: Shanghai A-shares, ticker 601939, and Hong Kong H-shares, ticker 939 (sometimes shown as 00939). These are different share classes on different exchanges, not alternate ticker formats for the same line. Before investing, check the exchange, share-class label, and order currency in your broker’s order preview.
Which CCB share line are you looking at?
CCB investor relations lists the Hong Kong H-shares on the Main Board of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong under ticker “939” and the Shanghai A-shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange under ticker “601939” (CCB investor relations FAQ). Some issuer materials format the Hong Kong code as 00939.
| Security | Exchange | Code | Usual trading currency | CCB-published board lot |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ordinary A-shares | Shanghai Stock Exchange | 601939 | RMB | 100 shares |
| Ordinary H-shares | Hong Kong Stock Exchange | 939 (also shown as 00939) | HKD | 1,000 shares |
| Domestic preference share | Shanghai Stock Exchange | 360030 | Not stated by the cited issuer materials | Not stated by the cited issuer materials |
CCB’s 2025 half-year report identifies preference share code 360030 separately from the ordinary A-share line (CCB 2025 half-year report). Do not treat 360030 as another format for 601939. Board-lot figures come from CCB’s investor FAQ; confirm the lot size and available order quantities in your broker interface before trading.
How to verify the listing in your broker
- Search the broker’s instrument directory for “China Construction Bank Corporation.”
- Compare the code with the intended line: 601939 for the Shanghai A-share or 939/00939 for the Hong Kong H-share.
- Check the exchange and share-class label in the instrument details and again in the order preview. Company name alone is not enough to distinguish the securities.
- Review the board lot, order options, fees, funding currency, conversion charges, and settlement details shown for your account.
- Before submitting, verify that the order preview still shows the intended instrument and market.
Access is account-specific. Whether you can trade a particular line depends on your investor location, broker, account, and trading route; the issuer’s listing information does not establish your eligibility.

What currency will you trade in?
In the standard market context, the Shanghai A-share trades in RMB and the Hong Kong H-share trades in HKD. HKEX investor guidance describes SSE securities as traded and settled in RMB in the Stock Connect context and SEHK securities as quoted in HKD for the mainland-investor context (HKEX Stock Connect investor FAQ). This is market-level guidance, not a guarantee of how your broker funds or settles an order. Confirm the order currency and any conversion or settlement arrangements with your broker.
Is a dividend currency the same as trading currency?
No. A share’s trading currency and a dividend payment option are separate matters. CCB’s 2025 annual report says H-shareholders were offered the option to receive the 2025 interim dividend in RMB for the first time (CCB 2025 annual report). That dividend option does not change the H-share’s exchange listing or usual trading currency.

What to compare before choosing a line
- Share class and exchange: identify whether the order is for the Shanghai A-share or Hong Kong H-share.
- Order and settlement currency: check the broker’s displayed currency, funding needs, conversion charges, and settlement process.
- Access and eligibility: confirm that your account and trading route allow the market and security.
- Lot size and fees: verify the order quantity rules and all applicable charges in the broker’s current interface.
These checks help identify the instrument and the practical mechanics of an order; they do not determine which line is a better investment.
